Get a full glass of water (at least 8 ounces but more if you can drink it), bend over almost double at the waist, and drink out of the far side of the glass. The glass will be tipped outward. This has never failed to work for me.
You can also try a teaspoon of sugar, but that doesn't work as well. Try the water first.

Let the sugar dissolve on the back of your tongue, don't just swallow it. Or swallow it all at once. There is disagreement on this, so try one and see if it works.

muchas gracias!
the water worked
oh man - this isn't as bad as the time I was at a wedding and got the hiccups so bad that it made me laugh and for some reason hiccups get louder (or at least mine do) when i laugh. it was during the vows too. there was a guy on ripley's who had the hiccups for like 2 years or something

oh come on sugar is about the stupidest thing i've heard on these forums ,do you know the science of hiccups? they occur when something in your throat get's dry (it always slips outta my mind dammit!)

LMAO, no. I thought they happen when you take in too much air.

no no, you're all wrong. hiccups happen when for some reason your diaphragm (which separates your thoracic and abdominal cavities) gets irritated.

Hiccups are evil trying to escape the body.

My (italian) family always said when you hiccup, someone is talking/thinking about you... You were obviously on someones mind... : )
