haha to be funny, but mostly annoying, i will give you a song 'by thursday' -- signals over the air, by the band Thursday

i dunno if it will work though.

Don't ya forget Against All Authority- Skate Song

By Xenowang (Xenowang) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 08:15 pm: Edit

God.... Why is punk rock so in these days?

Try playing "Under a Glass Moon" or "Metropolis Pt. 1" by Dream Theater while you skate. THAT will stand out, hehehe.

Gold Star For Robot Boy by Guided by Voices
Eau D'Bedroom Dancing by Le Tigre
What I could Stand For by Mates of State
Cut Your Hair by Pavement

"toxic" by B.S...This is a fast song but it gets annoying after a while. "Hey Ya" by out kast might be fun too.
Artistic artistic... hmmm...to go for the more dramtic aspect of artistic you could go for somthing with a sad theme like "mad world" by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules or "My Immortal" by Evanescance gahh! however the hell you spell their name. All good all good. Any thing by Delta Goodrem is good too.

By Fiza (Fiza) on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - 09:14 pm: Edit

I liked punk rock BEFORE it became popular. I've basically liked it for a while now. I have this bad tendency to discover bands before they blow up though. lol.

By Neona (Neona) on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - 09:26 pm: Edit

Try something from Radiohead, Coldplay, or the Goo Goo Dolls.

By Sopranosweety6 (Sopranosweety6) on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - 11:02 pm: Edit

Classical, new age, rock, pop, country, oldies, whatcha looking for? Personally I'd go with something with high energy but at the same time not too new. How about some Motown? Maybe "Mama Said"

By Jennyzsong (Jennyzsong) on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - 11:54 pm: Edit

punk rock is boo

greenday are sellouts.

leftover crack and crack rock steady are hilarious and should only continue to exist so i can laugh at them.

go emo/screamo.

By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 03:30 am: Edit

Guys.
The point is, she needs a song to SKATE to.
Not something to cry alone at night in her bed thinking about the cute boys who won't go out with her and the "popular" girls who won't let her go into the bathroom and throw up with them.
\sarcasm
As much as I love Dashboard Confessional. That Chris Carabba. He's so cute.
\endsarcasm

Hrm. White Reflection from the Gundam Wing OST is good. Anything by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. What about a version of "Embraceable You"? Andre3000 is good, but instead of Hey Ya I would choose Prototype, since it's an artistic routine, not technical.
You could also just do the generic thing and pull the latest pop/R&B song off the Top 40 (soundscan be darned) and use that.
My sister used to skate, so I know how harsh picking out new music is.

Hey Ktoid - " ...Ya can't forget to skate with songs about hatin' cops either. "
You mean NWA? I would love to see someone like Boitano do a routine to F*ck the Police :-D

By Fiza (Fiza) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 01:59 pm: Edit

emo IS punk.

By Jennyzsong (Jennyzsong) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 06:02 pm: Edit

that's like saying punk is country.

dashboard confessional is not emo, sorry. i like them, but they are nooot emo.

By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 06:18 pm: Edit

You don't think dashboard is emo?
Hrm.
I may agree. However, due to their subject matter and several stylistic influences, I would categorize them at least within a close genre, if not a subset of emo.

thanks soo much... im in the midst of listening to all the recommendations on those 30 second clips on amazon... agghhh.

By Ktoid (Ktoid) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 07:00 pm: Edit

Jennyzsong, I'm glad you have opinions on music. You are almost a neat kid. Don't forget to take that foot out of your ass.

By Welshie (Welshie) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 07:05 pm: Edit

I think it would have to depend on how you play the tape. If you go in real-time, a fast, up-beat song would be good to keep a nice pace. But if you go with camera shots from below and slow down the tape, some slow, airy classical music would be an interesting contrast to show the sort of light freedom as you ride, etc. All that said, I'd stay away from punk or what you might perceive to be punk because it's really cliched in the skating world. Maybe check out some of the Aquabats ("Super Rad" is a nice song). They are more upbeat/carefree but if you'd like a serious, strong/fast song, Dream Theatre could be good for you.

HRM.
I may be perceiving this wrong.
What kind of "skating" artistic program is this for? Inline skating, figure skating, etc?
Punk isn't really cliched in the figure skating world at ALL.

By Queenrosie17 (Queenrosie17) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:30 pm: Edit

nah ur right ecismyhome... its figure skating... sry i didnt specify.

By Neona (Neona) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:33 pm: Edit

Wow...everyone was soooo off!

I blame the person who posted that first song...screwed us all up.

I recommend either Joseph Arthur -- Honey and the moon, or Jeff Buckley -- Hallelujah, or Tori Amos -- Sweet Sangria, or Ani Difranco -- Joyful Girl.

All beautiful songs

By Ktoid (Ktoid) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:35 pm: Edit

Go figure. Like a person on this damn messageboard would actually be on a ramp. After all, they could fall and hurt themselves resulting in a loss of school, potentially damaging the perfect attendence they have at school. jeez/ ;0

By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 05:25 am: Edit

guys.
That's why I posted
"Hrm. White Reflection from the Gundam Wing OST is good. Anything by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. What about a version of "Embraceable You"? Andre3000 is good, but instead of Hey Ya I would choose Prototype, since it's an artistic routine, not technical.

All of those are very good music for a figure skating program - in fact, when rosie said that she needed music for an "artistic program," "to skate to," I assumed that it was figure skating, as my sister had the same problem a few years back. I'm guessing that inline/street skating doesn't have many artistic programs, as opposed to vert/street/trick/etc.

Heh. Way to fail.

And Ktoid - I'm a skater/soaper. Well, vaguely. If you have heard of the DEOS crew, they all graduated from my school (and if you haven't, look up the DEOS videos right now on brooksfsw or some other site. they're incredible)

i love guided by voices! sorry, randomness.

By Polka (Polka) on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 09:24 pm: Edit

i have always loved green day, but i really don't think that they are punk rock. basically no band i have ever heard of can be punk rock. punk should not even be a genre, its a style of playing music, like do it yourself music. once its main stream it should be considered like alternative. ewww.... i hate the word alternative.

By Polka (Polka) on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 09:26 pm: Edit

i would suggest something old but not too old... like the ramones (i suggest blitzkeirg bop or sheena is a punk rocker) or the cure (i suggest why can't i be you)

By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 04:14 am: Edit

Friday (I'm In Love) by The Cure would be good to skate to...

Anything by Michael Jackson. I'm actually listening to it now. Helps me with pulling all-nighters. Sad...

AWWW! Trans Siberian Rocks! I totally didnt think of them!

By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 04:29 pm: Edit

hahaha. yes. My Discrete Math teacher/mentor used to play it in class. Very good music to visualize the fourth spatial dimension to.

Ooh. Another GREAT song my teacher played all the time is Tubular Bells - the theme from The Exorcist. I would LOVE to see an artistic to that.
