Hey my class of '06! =)

As some of you may know from my whiny post, I'm hopefully attending the music theatre program at Muhlenberg. I don't have too much experience in music theatre, but I'm up for learning about it. I hope I get in to it....if not, I'll probably get a job...or take some courses somewhere.

Glad to see some more people in c/o '06 here. This summer I'm taking a trip to Europe with a group from my school, going to dance camp, hopefully going to a leadership camp (if I get in), and attending another leadership seminar. Fun Fun!

ok ok the BEST absoooolute best math camp is ....MATH CAMP! ahah yeh thats what its called...u can find out more about it at www.mathcamp.org..its being hosted in Maine this yr.

math camp offers many classes that u dont get to do in high school like non-euclidean geometry (euclidean geo is the stuff u learn in high school) advanced calculus...combinatorics...number theory...topology..and so forth
its also a great great program to improve ur skills at math competitions such...olympiad style
the problems are like USAMO problems (the third round of the american mathematics competition)...where u give proof based solutions and some are as hard as the top level international mathematics olympiad...u get the picture

math camp has greeeeat lectures...i cant stress how good the lectures are and u meet soo many cool ppl u definitely gotta go :P

hope to see ya around!

By Mallorybee (Mallorybee) on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 12:33 am: Edit

ahhhhhhh you guys are sophomores!!! go out and have fun..... dont stress yourself out now and think about college... you have sooo much time left for that.

By Korey (Korey) on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 04:46 pm: Edit

NO, lol, this is the time when we're suppose to be preparing for college and our futures...I'm not interested in a fun-based life right now...I mean, fun is good and stuff, but all the old people keep telling us to "chill out" and "have fun"...lol, its not gonna happen!

By Mels (Mels) on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 05:33 pm: Edit

math camp hahhahahahahahahhahahaha =)

By Ameliabedelia (Ameliabedelia) on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 06:08 pm: Edit

I think that we (as sophomores) should definitely be going out and having fun - that's what I do every weekend! But, I also I agree that this is the time for us to be exploring our interests and gaining experiences that will help us in the future, whether that be by traveling, math camp, film camp, etc.

i really want to work this summer and at the same time continue with the research i'm planning to submit to the concord review. i really want it to be as stress-free as possible but i'm still considering taking the urbanology course at the university of chicago. i like the fact that the course is a field study.

Question, i didn't do anything freshmen sunmmer except go to a two-day Odyssey of the Mind workshop. Will that hurt my application experience for ivy league schools?

By Texaskid (Texaskid) on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 10:43 pm: Edit

Im going to try to get a job and save up some money...I was invited to that People to People Student Ambassadors thing and I realllly wanted to go, but Im too poor to afford the trip, lol. --I got a letter from that too and so did a friend of mine o_o; We think it's a scam and they probably got our names from a list.

Shanbang, I'm going to apply to that Georgetown intl r. week too x_x;; Oh no. Competition. I haven't heard of anyone who has gone to it before, but I hope I can get in and you too. Do you know anything about the enrollment #?

By Shanbangs (Shanbangs) on Sunday, January 04, 2004 - 04:59 pm: Edit

goergetown sounds more lax than JSA. I'm only applying because there's no app fee so i can go if JSA rejects me. anyways, somebody answer my question: If i didn't do anything but an OM workshop (2 days) summer of freshmen year, will it hurt me when i apply to top tier schools?

It's not a scam. I got the letter too, but I don't have the money. A friend of mine went last year and she loved it. A few other friends of mine went also. I believe you can get credits for it. It's not scam though.

By Haithman (Haithman) on Monday, January 05, 2004 - 10:02 pm: Edit

maybe University of Maryland

By At8 (At8) on Monday, January 05, 2004 - 11:09 pm: Edit

Sophomore here, too. This summer, I'm probably doing some kind of enrichment program, either academic (i.e. taking a class) or athletic (i.e. practicing a sport, such as cross country). My high school has a great summer school program, so I might take a class there. There's always the option, too, of taking a class at a local community college (although I'm probably not going to do that), or participating in a summer program at a four-year university. Who knows? It's only January.

I'm going to NYLF med, taking an SAT class, and probably working as a camp counselor

By Olivia (Olivia) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 10:30 pm: Edit

this summer i'm preparing for the SATs, going to circus smirkus [sleepaway circus camp, it'll be my 3rd year :)], reading, drawing, and painting.... as well as having fun. <3 olivia
ps. i'm also considering taking algebra 2 over the summer.

By Haruko (Haruko) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:52 pm: Edit

what are you going to do at circus camp? :D sounds so cool!

By Mazzystar (Mazzystar) on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 09:43 pm: Edit

Olivia-DUDE THAT SHOW TOTALLY CIRCUS ROCKED!

I remember going to that camp was my dream, lol. My parents definitely thought that 1,000 for the camp was a bit too much, that or the fact that they're never too hot about their daughter wanting to go into the circus business (which, to me sounds a lot better than becoming a business woman who wears pant-suits and has her fancy cell phone and dell laptop)

How is Smirkus? Lots of fun?
