Does anyone know how much teacher recommendations are weighed for this competition? My recommender just gave me her letter the other day (for a supp. one to college apps, one that i no longer plan on sending in), and it SUCKED. All it did was reiterate some of my activity list. and it was horrible stuff. she listed things that i didn't even decide worthy to put on my college app now. How much will this hurt for getting a finalist position?

I didn't know that there were letters for National Merit except for the counsellor one. I wouldn't worry much though. 15,000 of the 16,000 semifinalists make finalist. I think that pretty much everyone who fills out the forms and has an SAT score corroborating the PSAT score is fine... As for geting the actual scholarship, I'm not sure... Good luck! I think we hear in Feb...
