I was thinking about giving my Spanish AP and Chem AP teachers cards and $20 gift certificates to a restaurant for writing my letters of recommendation. It will be a thank you/Christmas gift. I was just wondering if anyone else was doing anything like this...

It sounds OK, but don't feel obligated to give the $20 gift certificate. I know that when I was a prof, what I most appreciated from students was hand written thank-you notes that said exactly what I had done that they felt had helped them in class or TO get opportunities. I really didn't want gifts. To me, that sort of cheapened what I had done for them, which was from the heart, not in hopes of getting a thank-you present.
