hey guys. i feel so depressed right now. i got a 40 on my chem lab...on one of the tests, i got an 84. an 84 may not sound that bad, but my grades have been dropping (from 90's!!). and i think it's too late to raise my grade. i've read that some of you guys are taking a class over like during the summer? can someone please tell me how they can do this? and the grade you get while taking the course over the summer will replace the one you got during the school year, no? and please someone tell me where some of you have gone to do this? i mean, my school has summer school...but i dont think we can retake a class there (unless you failed it)?? i'm not sure. so, please help mee!!

Most schools don't let you retake a class unless you failed it. It's really pointless actually. If you have a B in that class, get over it. You still have another semester. Just try your hardest, and if you still come out of that class with a B, its OK.
Plus, if you go to summer school to retake a class you didn't get an A in or something, the kids there who probably got an F in it will want to beat the crap out of you ;-)

I am in the same situation as you!!!
I totally bombed my calculus test!!!
I think summer school is only available for ppl who never took the course or like Mazzystar said, only for ppl who failed... are you in your senior year??? if you a junior, you still have time.if you are a senior...
I am so sad ....cried myself to sleep....
=)

From what I know, you are allowed to retake a class if you have a B, and the higher grade (an A in your case) will show. I got a B in Algebra 1 in seventh grade and considered retaking it until I heard that it looks VERY bad on your transcript, because it shows that you took the class twice. In fact, it is advisable for you to keep the B, rather than take the class over again.

I'm planning on purposely failing geometry this year, and then retaking it online. It's better than getting a B-/C+ this year. My school completely cancels out the failing grade, so it won't matter at all.
Also, I got a C in Earth Science in 8th grade (my worst year), but after talking to my counselor about how much that CRUSHED my GPA, I found out there's actually a way to not count that grade, but count the credit only in the schools computer; colleges won't see I ever took it.
I'm going to have 6-7 years of other sciences, so not having Earth science is no big deal.
Talk to your counselor, seem councerned, and see what they recommend.

what are your middle school classes doing on your high school transcript anyway?

I'm in the same situation. I took 5 HS honors classes during middle school and they're on my trancript. The thing that sucks is that they lower my GPA tremendously.. :-(
a B won't kill you - nor will a "test you bombed". One test does not equal your grade. Chill out, man

Our school system lets you take classes for highschool credit in middle school, and this is a bad thing FOR EVERYONE!!!
Still, I'm planning on purposely failing geometry because there's a good chance I'll get a C, and I can't let that happen.
Classes are MUCH easier over the summer or online.

weird...
I wonder if the two high school math classes I took in middle school are on my transcript. I never even thought to look.

hey...it's me, apathetiqe_one...but i had to make a new sn because i lost the password to the old one. anyway, thanks a lot guys ;) i think i'm just gonna work hard and try to pull an a for chem. btw, i'm a sophomore and i'm taking chem h. my school has block scheduling, and for the first marking period, i got an A, but a B in the midterms..)
anyway, can i ask another q? well, i wanted to take another class during the summer...one that i haven't taken yet. cause at my school they wont let sophomores take pre-cal, so i was wondering if we're aloud to take them during the summer...but i know my school wont let me take it during their summer school because pre-cal is an elective. so where would be the best place to take it? thanks guys

If you're willing to pay, you can take them at:
www.flvs.net
I'm sure there's other online classes for much cheaper; for out-of-Florida people it costs $600 at this place.
I know where I live (S. Florida) the community college always sends out a list of highschool credit classes we can take there (all honors math or sciences)...but I don't know about your area, so I suggest you go to your school counselor and ask.

thanks, jay. i was actually considering going to a community college for the summer...but how will that appear on my transcript?
| By Jay12602 (Jay12602) on Sunday, December 14, 2003 - 01:13 pm: Edit |
Well it's a program through the public schools, and since a lot of the schools are shut down over the summer they just house the program there.

You have to find out how your individual school handles it when you repeat a course. Don't count on the original grade "going away". Your transcript might show both grades, but only credit for one course.

ok thanks guys for all the info!

Y'all think it IS better to purposely fail a class, get it obliterated from my transcript, and then try hard and secure an A the second time taking it rather than accepting the C, right? The second time I'd take it I'd do it online, so I wouldn't be delayed a year for retaking it.
I got off to a REALLY bad start in geometry, and even if I did good for the rest of the year I may still have a C. :/
