Does anyone have some tips on how to stop procrastination? I've been doing it almost all my life. I come home, play games until midnight THEN start my homework. Any hints or ways to help?

well, you could uh, stop playing video games...I've had my share of those. I think you should say to your self "NO MORE GAMES!" say that to yourself over and over again, until you feel like games suck (which they don't)

In my experience, I've found motivation to be the key in curing procrastination. Sit down and write three or four short-term goals that you want to accomplish on a piece of paper. Make them realistic. Now underneath write some statements about what you hope to get out of your studies in the long term, for example, getting into a good college? You can also add to this, good reasons why you should start homework now- not later! Then, pin this up somewhere where you will see it. A good place would be where you keep your video games. When you come across this list, read it, and re-think your decision... you may be surprised which one seems more appealing!
Other things that you may want to try is making up a "homework timetable" (a good idea if, unlike me, you can stick to it!) Or maybe you could give a family member/friend your video games to "hold hostage" until after a certain time?
Anyway, these are just a few ideas. I'm sure you can come up with some more.
Good luck,
Fran

the key for curing procrastination is not curing it. procrastination is tight. smart ppl can still succeed while procrastinating. if you cant handle waiting until the last minute to do stuff and it cuts into your academic success, you might as well go to community college.

If this is a serious problem you may want to seek professional help from a medial Psychiatric . They could prescribe medication for this.

OMG--I am the worst procrastinator! I go out/relax on Friday and Saturday, sleep late Sunday, do chores and stuff, then start a lot of homework late Sunday night... and then I wonder why I'm up until 5:00 AM. Gotta love procrastination ;-)

Isn't that what most people do anyways? Wait till the last minute? If your distraction is Video Games, what you can try to do is sports. I have friends who were addicted to WarCraft, StarCraft, whatever, but they got bored of it after they play sports. This is when you put your computer away for a week and not use it while playing sports for that week. It worked for my friends so far. Anyways, atleast if your distraction becomes sports you'll be healthy...
