Donating blood, and also donating plasma every two weeks. I know the plasma thing takes almost 3 hours. Would colleges be interested in this as volunteer work? I want to do it anyway, but I was just wondering.

I dunno, they might be impressed or they might be grossed out. Probably both. It's not really volunteer work anyway. There's no work involved...you just let someone poke at you.

I agree with Ariesathena - what a personal statement! If I were an adcom, I would certainly assume that you would be an active, involved member of the university community. It sure beats a lot of the pansy stuff people call volunteer work. Put this on your app somewhere. It certainly isn't a traditional volunteer thingy, but put it there if there isn't any better place on your app. Do you have some sort of recognition for having donated x number of times or having donated x number of units?

(Make it clear that you are an unpaid donor of both blood and plasma. Most people know that blood donors are volunteers, but there could be some confusion with people who sell plasma.)

we get nhs sponsored hours at my school for giving blood at one of the 3 blood ddrives held at our school in collaboration with the Red Cross.

I thinks its two hours everytime you give blood.
