Ok. I was just wondering how these ECs sound. It seems like I'm always doing something.. but then when I wrote all the stuff down it just sounds so average. Here it is:
Tennis (9, 10)
Debate (10-12) officer next year
Piano all my life- begins teaching lessons in August-playing with my temple orchestra-other awards
Key Club (10-12)
Art Club (10-12) officer next year
Future Educators of America (11-12) Vice-Pres
Writing for school newspaper (12)
NHS (11-12)
UIL Math and Science (12)

-Volunteering:
Hospital (9-12)
Women's Center-tutoring children at shelter (11-12)
Teaches Art and Science classes at Boys and Girls Club (11-12)
Nursing Home- organized arts and crafts day, gives piano lessons (its funny stuff.) (11-12)
Environmental organization-clean ups etc. 50+ hours (11)

-Other
took Chemistry and Psychology during the summer at local CC
worked the summer after 9th grade at a computer business, created multimedia for courses, approx. 35 hrs a week
10hr intership at ER (11)
Will be interning at a local clinic next year
Btw, I was planning on going for an elite/lower ivy school. Not really depending on them, but I guess they would be my reaches.
Tell me if you think i'm lacking ECs in a certain area. Thanks for your time!!!

Did I mention I was desperate?

for volunteering, it'd be nice to give # of hours for each project.

how strong do you feel about piano?

those are the two things that kind of seem interesting on this resume.

also tell us which of the activities is the MOST significant to you.

Ok, for volunteering, the hours are approx...
Hospital (9-12) 80 hrs and counting..
Women's Center-tutoring children at shelter (11-12) 2 hrs a week during the summer and the school year. 12 hours so far.
Teaches Art and Science classes at Boys and Girls Club- 15 hrs a week during the summer, 3 hrs a week during the school year. about 40 hrs so far.
Nursing Home- organized arts and crafts day, gives piano lessons (its funny stuff.) 5hrs a week during the summer, 2 hrs a week during the school year about 20 hrs so far
Environmental organization-clean ups etc. 50+ hours

Piano is definitely my biggest passion. I really want to continue playing when I go to college; and depending on where I end up, I might decide to minor in music. Debate is the activity I enjoy most at school, and I really hope to continue in college as well. Teaching classes at the boys and girls club is my favorite volunteering project. I absolutely love working with kids, and especially love teaching. Do you think I'm lacking in any areas...ex. leadership?? academic extracurricular?? (no independent research etc)
Well...thank you so much for responding and giving me your input!!!

It is better to be an active member in a club than to hold an empty title. So dont worry about the leadership part as long as you can show in ur app that you're passionate in what you do. =)

academic ec wise, do you participate in debate tournaments?

By Pb20219 (Pb20219) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 06:42 pm: Edit

Yes. Our school does not get to attend as many tournaments as some others due to an extremely tight budget. We're allowed to attend 3 tournaments a year, and in the last two years that I have been an active member, I have placed at 4 of the 6 tournaments.

^bump^..

well that's good that you've placed. So emphasize debate, music, and volunteer work on your application. Make these three areas shine. You should be fine. =)

Do colleges really care about this stuff. Seriously, I have like 4 hours of community service logged in helping at a church during aftermath of september 11th. Here are my stats:

- NJ Science League (Bio1 in 9th - Chem1 in 10th - plan to do Physics1 this year and Chem2 in 12th)
- Held same part time job, and plan to continue to have job throughout HS (will colleges like the consistency?)
- Have web and graphic design business with my twin (http://www.teamtwin.com)
*New Layout* - http://www.teamtwin.com/redesign/layout2.jpg

- I am gonna do Tennis this upcoming spring

That's really it. I play bass clarinet, but I'm no super amazing musician (though I'm pretty good). I don't do school sports (except hopefully tennis). I don't do community service. What's up with these stats?
