Is it better to do community service at one place and get a lot of hours (ie 200 or more) or to do it at a variety of places, getting less than 50 for each but still getting the same total number of hours?

Is it too late to start community service in Junior year? Will it look too suspicious? I think I need it.... I couldn't drive anywhere to help out before this year.

That's very common in our area, where most parents work full-time. With any amount of school extracurricular commitment, I think most colleges will understand that adding CS works best when the student can drive. If you HAVE to list CS by year - is it possible you have participated with your family or another group in some short-term projects? For instance, when they were younger, my boys helped pack "back-to-school" supply packages for a few days every July for a community foundation. Also helped to set up the same charity auction/dinner every year. Short-term projects that required several hours or days are important, too, as they meet a community need. We truly never worried about total hours.
