By Hilario15 (Hilario15) on Tuesday, July 01, 2003 - 09:34 pm: Edit

My GPA is 113.91111. The highest that is possible in regular classes is 110 and in AP/ P-AP classes is 120. Please tell me my weighted GPA on the 4.0 scale (above 4.0). My unweighted is 4.0 if my unweighted average is between 95 and 100, right? That is what the Princeton Review says.

lol what an F'd up grading system

To get your unweighted GPA:
4-A
3-B
2-C
1-D
0-F

Add up all your grades and average them. If you have any grade under an A- you can't have a 4.0 unweighted.

is an A- still considered 4.0?

my stupid school is weird. i think an A- is like a 3.7, an A is 4.0, and A+ is 4.3. thats "unweighted" but its still weighted for an A+.

so if i have like 5 A-'s, 20+ A's, and 15 A+'s (random estimate), is it still considered a 4.0?

bump, please.
same prob as sunshine. Colleges re-calculate GPA so if my school goes by the IB system and assigns grades:
7 A*
6 A
5 B
4 C
3 D
2 E/F
1 U

then how is htat recalculated?

Typical weighted:
5 = A
4 = B
3 = C
1 = D
0 = F

Typical unweighted:
4=A
3=B
2=C
1=D
F=0.

In this case, "typical unweighted" is how they will view your GPA. They don't care about how your school weights grades, really, because that is usually only used in a given high school's ranking process. They will care about difficulty of courses, naturally, but they will look at the grades in those on their own, not as the product of a weighted average.

Bottom line: unweighted is important and almost *always* "traditionally" 4=A, 3=B, etc. Notice that there isn't a plus or a minus. Some may use them when calculating GPAs, but very few do.

hey rowan
so are you saying that A*s, A+s, As, A-s will all be considered 4.0 (i.e. A) with college admin?

that's lovely. Now burst my bubble. ;).

As far as I know, Yz16, yes. An A-=A=A+.

Someone do correct me if I'm wrong!

I think it may be around a 4.9
