I am a horrible procrastinator!!! (Or should I say, I am an excellent procrastinator?!) I always end up doing OK and getting As, but all year with everything I procrastinate so much in doing homework, essays, studying, etc. So it ends up last minute. Usually this year (Junior year) I wouldn't be able to actually get any homeowrk/studying done until 12am and then I ended up finishing it all on teh way to school and during lunch. I can't tell you how many essays I managed to write all this year during my lunch period. I think the only way I get really motivated is when teh pressure is on, then I can work miracles. But even though I almost always end up finishing everything on time, I am left with a felling that I could have done a better job if I hadn't procrastinated. None of my friends who are taking similar courseloads as me (3 APs jr year) seem to have this problem to the extent that I do. Does anyone have any tips for avoiding procrastination? I am procrastinating right now, I have my Bio Final tomorrow and have studied for a total of 10 minutes! Particularly with the confusion of college admissions coming up in teh fall, I need any advice on how to end procrastination and get work done. Thanks in advance for posting!!

What I've found helpful this year is just doing a little bit at a time when you are bored or are just finding yourself sitting around vegging out. Just open up your notebook and review for 15 minutes, but you may think what can i do in 15 mins. well you just have that much less to do later. And then you can focus more on the essays.
You can never finish if you never start(yes, cliche i know, but words to live by). So just open your notebook in your free(what i like to call "dead") time!!!

Good luck to you Ch2!!!!

Wow, story of my life Ch2. I procrastinate like crazy. The best way I think too cure procrastination is to set deadlines for yourself and work to meeting them. For example you might say:

4:00- Bio work done
5:00- Math work done
6:30- English reading done
6:30-6:45: Break
etc...

If you keep yourself in check in such increments you are less likely to end up starting your homework at 9! Good luck!

wow you sound exactly like me!! but the good thing with myself is that even if i do my AP essays at lunch, they always turn out polished. quality always works for me when im under pressure. i have no clue to cure it but i would recommend to start a study group after school where you do your homework together and get it over with.

hey, that's exactly the problem with me! I tried doing the schedule thing but it never works! Just force yourself to start workin and avoid distractions.

Although I’m good most of the time… any time any major exams are coming up (like finals!) I turn into the procrastinator of the century! Luckily, I often have overcome the urge to procrastinate and I’m sure most people are able to if they know how.I got some good tips off the Internet about procrastination so if you search on any search engine I’m sure you’ll get some advice, but remember its pretty much about personal preference.

For me, I find doing schedules work well like APGuy suggested and if I’m motivated to stick to them then it really works well for me. Another thing I do is tell myself that I’ll do some work for 15 minutes then give up. Usually after those 15 minutes I’m too engrossed and actually can’t stop! (Honestly!) Another technique I use is to try and work out why I don’t want to work. It sounds silly but by actually sitting down and thinking, I’ve worked out all kinds of things. Ranging from the fact that I don’t want to study because I am ‘scared of failing’ to the simple ‘overconfidence’ by addressing these issues I actually found it easy to get on with stuff because I could work with them.

These are just some of the things that helped me. I agree procrastination is a nightmare but just remember finals will be over soon and after that you relax and enjoy the rest of life! Focus on the good stuff!

Good luck with your studies!

I have several excellent suggestions on the subject. I'll tell you about them tomorrow.
