The following is a quote from the UCLA admissions website:
"Primary importance is placed on the GPA since this number already represents performance on a select set of courses and is the single best academic predictor of college-level performance. Strength of the curriculum is next in importance. A strong GPA accomplished through a weak program is not very meaningful. SAT II scores weigh more heavily than SAT I or ACT scores. Additional academic strength can be found in AP tests completed with scores of 3, 4, or 5. Each of these represents a course completed at the college level. The student will be awarded course credit and placement in a higher-level course at UCLA where appropriate." (UCLA Undergraduate Admissions)
Hope that helps. I'm going to UCLA next year, btw! Coincidentally, i also took both Spanish and Latin for all four years... and i know that is a good thing to have on your transcripts. Good luck!

It's kind of early to tell...but if you're a Cali resident and you maintain your grades, get nice test scores, etc. you should be ok

Do some volunteer work. Do it in whatever interests you, what you are passionate about. For me, i volunteered at a hospital and shadowed several doctors [friends of the family, so that helped
] and I became active in my church. Colleges like to see community involvement and such, not just school clubs. But at the same time, don't do those things just as a resume-builder. If you aren't into anything like that, don't do it - stick with what you enjoy.
I also agree with Roxy, its early to tell, especially since UCLA doesn't count Freshmen grades.
