Just got my stuff in the mail -- going to Stanford this summer because I have no better way to destroy my braincells. :)

I was curious -- anyone else going? Haven't heard a thing about it, and I'd also like to know how it is from other people who may've gone before.

If anyone wants to contact me, my ICQ is 47310811. It requires authorization, so just tell me CCBB: and I'll approve.

Excited. :D

Was it hard to get in? Can you apply as a 10th grader?

By Rowan (Rowan) on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 - 10:31 pm: Edit

I don't know how to answer that question, Gianscolere, except to offer you my stats, which will probably be misleading.

Junior with a 3.7WGPA (3.6UWGPA) and 1280 SATs (also have 32 ACT, but those didn't get sent). Had two *excellent* recommendations from an AP English and a physics teacher, plus a so-so essay thing about interacting with teenagers in JSA conventions.

My guess is that it wasn't to competitive on numbers alone, or even a very strict review, or else I wouldn't've gotten in. ;)

The cover letter of the package they sent me says otherwise: "I am very pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to attend... We have read your application materials thoroughly and believe that you will make valuable contributions to the Stanford community this summer. We also believe that you are the kind of student who will gain a great deal from the Stanford experience."

I also got a scholarship from them that covers about 40% of the total cost, but that was based on financial information/statement of need only (supposedly).

Applications for this summer closed on April 11th, though the site says to call the office because they seemed to have extended the deadline (website: http://summersession.stanford.edu/) It doesn't specify what year in high school you need to be, so a 10th grader very well may have a chance. :)

As far as I know, they have limited spots. There is a designated dorm-system -- Lagunita Court -- where the Summer College students live for the 8 weeks they're there. As to how many apply and how many actually go... well. I dunno.

Thanks so much for answering the question. I will go check that website out. But if they no longer accept applications, I will just try for next year. Thanks again! Your comments were very helpful.

Not a problem, Gianscolere -- keep me updated on how it goes. :)

So... anyone know if they're going or not going? Applied before? Even *heard* of this before?

Anyone?

I guess I'll take that as a no. Oh well. :)

i applied with a 1090 SAT... got accepted also. However, I'm going to harvard instead...

I heard they accept around 70% of their applicants...

Sorry, you made a mistake, the Stanford Summer program is the best experience you will have have in your life. Harvard is boring.

Big mistake
