I am attending the harvard summer school program in june and I already bought the pplane ticket. I was wondering as to how I am going to get from the airport to harvard. Is there a subway I can take or something. Or should I take a taxi? I am completely confused...

I suggest taking a taxi. As a Bostonian myself, I know there are not any subways. There are trains and the MBTA provides buses, but it would take awhile to get anywhere using them if you weren't famaliar with them. Use a taxi.

I guess i will take the taxi. My screen name is PRRETY I was hopping to find someone who is arriving with the same flight time, so I would have someone with me to figure out where to go and stuff, but Im sure i can manage on my own.

If you're not carrying a lot of stuff, you easily can take the subway. There's a short bus from the airport to the subway station. I think it's even free.

The subway lines are color coded. As I remember, you take the blue line and then transfer to the Red line to Harvard Square. The subway lets you out right in front of Harvard.

The last time I took a taxi in Boston it cost about $40 bucks from the airport to Harvard. That was in 2001. I got caught in a snowstorm. :(

I think normally, the fare is about $25.

Boston traffic is horrible. Depending on when you arrive, taking the subway can be faster.

You also can take one of those services that picks up several riders, dropping people off at their locations. That's cheaper than a regular taxi, but does take longer.

If it will be your first visit, you might as well take a taxi or the service I described in the previous graph. Then you'll see some scenery. Be prepared for some frightening sights. Boston drivers are nuts.

I took the MBTA from a destination further from the airport to Harvard and had to switch to several lines, but I got there eventually. Just find your way to get onto the RED LINE bound for ALEWIFE. From downtown, it's about four stops away. There is a train station labeled Logan Airport, but you actually have to take a bus to get there from the airport. It should be easy; there are ground transportation desks at the Logan Airport baggage claim. When you get off the train station at "Harvard," the gate is literally right there.
So, in short, take the MBTA from Logan Airport, switch to RED LINE at some point that is bound for ALEWIFE...and of course get off at Harvard

Good luck!

I have a question. For those of you accepted at the program, how difficult was it to get in? I wish to apply next year. Thanks!

By Mfacusse (Mfacusse) on Saturday, May 10, 2003 - 01:43 pm: Edit

It's extremely easy to get in. An 1100 on the SAT is perfectly fine. They don't even ask for an essay

There aren't any subways in Boston, just trolleys and trains.

Hey guys I'm going, too. This thing sounds like a blast. By the way, Mfacusse, it's not hard to get in. Just have decent A/Bs and a moderate (1200 or up) SAT score, and you've got it in the bag. Anyway, for those of you that are going, what classes are you doing? I'm doing precalculus and Chinese I.

Sorry, Mfacusse. I meant to say Gianscolere, not you.

Hey,
Did you all get your dorm room info yet? I got it in the mail yesterday. Anyone know about which dorms are the best? Ohh and the whole subway/train situation. The harvard housing information brochure has the directions from Logan Airport and one of the options is by SUBWAY not train. Lol I am sure you guys know what you are talking about, but thats what the paper says.

By Mfacusse (Mfacusse) on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 - 06:41 pm: Edit

I got my room information already. I'm in Wigglesworth... funny name

I'm taking pre-calculus and microeconomics

Hey for those of you taking precalc, do you know if we will know enough by the end of the summer to omit the course and go straight to calc next year?

By M_Eduardo (M_Eduardo) on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 10:08 pm: Edit

I was thinking the same thing. I contacted them and they mentioned that I could even transfer to AP Calc... however my school has some trouble with that.

By M_Eduardo (M_Eduardo) on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 10:09 pm: Edit

are you taking the afternoon precalc course?

By Blane1086 (Blane1086) on Monday, May 19, 2003 - 08:17 pm: Edit

The only prerequisite to getting in is being rich as hell.

By Jmateoj (Jmateoj) on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 - 02:37 am: Edit

Does it really help you to get into college, to go to the harvard summer school? Does it help to get into the Ivy's?
