h-w is pretty strict, and its bigger than poly. both have awesome placement. h-w offers /more/ since its larger, but then there are a ton of benefits to going to a small school as well.
at poly, starting next year, you take a semester of chemistry frosh year and either biology, chemistry, or ap chem soph year. ap chem is incredibly tough, pretty much everyone gets 5s. your friend might like that challenge. junior year you can take chemistry (if you took bio soph year), biology, or ap biology. senior year is physics, honors physics, or ap physics. honors and ap have the same 1st semester curriculum, but in 2nd semester honors does a lot of building stuff. its cool. as far as math goes, there are two tracks- one will get you to calculus ab, the other to bc. you can also take stats senior year and chaos theory is incorporated into the curriculum.
poly has an /excellent/ math program right now- it is suited for people who don't like to learn silly rules and prefer true understanding. however, there are a lot of people who don't like the system because basically they're lazy and dislike math. its unclear what the future of the poly math program will be. almost all the texts are written by teachers themselves, and they're very precise and interconnected- which is awesome, it really taught me to love the philosophical aspects of math.
hmm. anything else?

How about Hawaii prep? Then there's the school Bill Gates went to. Cate and Thacher ARE good. See www.celebrityprepschools.com for more info.
