I have noticed that a lot of you have handed in your applications in the last 10 days or 2 weeks and are wondering when you will get your answers.
Michigan can sometimes take as little as 2 weeks to answer students...but in most cases, positive, wait-list or negative, Michigan will take 6-8 weeks to get back to a student. It used to take 3-6 weeks, but with the new application format (which includes essays), the process is slower. So if you haven't received a reply after 4-6 weeks, do not panic.
One thing you can do to put your mind at ease is call the admissions office 2 weeks after sending your application to make sure they they have received all your materials and that everything is in good order. You can also ask the admissions office for the automated response number and instructions on how to use it. It gives you updtates on where your application is in the process.
In most cases, the university sends out a confirmation letter that they have received all the needed documentation to process your application anyway. Usually it takes a couple of weeks to get their confirmation, so do not panic if you haven't received any word from them after 10 days.
Beyond that, take it easy and be patient. 6-8 weeks is not that bad. Students applying to most other universities have to wait over 15 weeks to get a response.
