Work really hard on the admissions test, it plays a pretty big role in admissions there (I went there last summer... it was AMAZING!!!). Good test scores and teacher recs and at least decent grades in class will help... like high SAT, AMC 12, and AIME scores. Basically you just have to really like math. It's not that bad. Program 2 actually isn't that hard, you don't really ever use calc, and you get less homework... I did program 2 and LOVED it. I'm a visual person, so the visual aspect helped a lot. But you can't go wrong either way. Let me know if you have any more questions! And good luck!

Hey, thanks a lot Marlgirl!! Do you think going to Sumac will help the the chances of getting into stanford a lot?? I heard that if you work really hard and get the prof to write recommendations it'll help a ton.

I was trying to figure that out during camp... I'm sure it will help, but I'm not sure how much. There *is* someone at Stanford in admissions who deals with the mathematically inclined people (including SUMaC of course) and Robin, the Dean of Admissions at Stanford, at least knew of Rick (the Stanford prof who runs the program). My prof in Program 2 seemed to think it really helped a lot, some of the counselors weren't sure exactly how much it helps... Your profile says that you're an international student, so I think for you it might give you an edge. However, I think that the students in the program just happen to be strong in math and good students with interesting interests and would stand a good shot at Stanford without SUMaC... so it's hard to say.

How about EPGY?? Would anybody recommend going to EPGY summer program? If so, what does that require of applicants?
