Does being Filipino American hurt chances of admission? Does declining to state hurt chances?

Being white or asian does not help you, but it does not hurt you - you just have to compete like everyone else, without the help od affirmative action. It does not matter whether you state you ethnicity or not if you are not URM.

Although there are many asian applicants to Stanford, the majority of the asian students there seem to be Chinese, Indian and Japanese. IMO being a Filipino American will allow you to bring different experiences and a different perspective from these other asian groups, IF you are actively involved in the Filipino community or if that ancestry is an important part of your identity (if so, bring that out in one of your essays). IMO Stanford understands that diverse ideas and points of view enhances the intellectual experience for everyone in the community.
