I'm currenty a freshman at the University of Kansas, planning on transferring to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in the Fall of 2005 (next year). First of all, when should I apply for transfer? The deadline is all the way until March 1st, but I of course know I shouldn't wait nearly that long. Should I go ahead and apply now?
And second of all, I was wondering if you could weigh my chances. I'll give my stats in a very condensed format, but if you need more, please say so.
HS GPA: 3.93 unweighted
Rank: About 15/500 (top 3% of class)
Lots of honors and AP classes (english 9-12H/AP, physics H, calc 1 AP calc 2 AP, AP gov, AP hist, etc)
AP Tests: Macro economics-5, Micro economics-4
About 200 hrs of community service
Lots of academic awards
President of school spirit club (led assemblies, promote school spirit/unity in several ways throughout year, etc)
Involved in various other clubs such as Student Council, National Honors Society, SADD, etc (about 8 other outside activities)
ACT Score: 31
In college:
Currrently in first semester, member of University Honors Program. Taking 1 honors course this semester and probably 2 next semester.
Plan on getting a GPA anywhere from 3.7-4.0.
I'm planning on majoring in Business at UMich, but am entering to college of arts and sciences because I will only be a sophomore when I enter.
I would appreciate any and all comments you have, thanks in advance!

I think you have a good chance. Call the admissions office at Michigan to ask them for the best time to apply as a transfer student.

Oh by the way I called and they started accepting transfer applications as of September 1st, so I'll be applying as soon as I get the essays completed, so no help needed there anymore.

i'm just wondering if UMich requires recommendations and other supplemental materials for engineering transfer?

I'm wondering if they're going to take many transfers next year. This year's freshman class was the largest in the University's history - they have 450-500 more freshmen than usual - and, of course, this is the class you'd be entering. You should ask the admissions office. My guess is they'll accept very few transfers. But your chances are good if they proceed as usual.
