So we all know that the admit rate for EA is higher, but I've seem some people recommend RD over EA. Is there a certain type of applicant that is more suited for one? Is Stanford more picky during EA or is the pool better and more competitive?

Generally the applicant pool for EA is stronger than RD, because it is single choice only. However, if you think that you are a strong applicant (both in the general population of students applying EA and from your school), then EA is a good way to go if Stanford is your number one choice and isn't as much of a "reach" school for you as it may be for others. Especially since you get a "second chance" (if you are deferred) to improve your application for another consideration.

so you are saying that for students who have stanford has a definite "reach" applying EA might actually hurt chances?
this is a very brief summary of my stats
rank: 5/1351
sat: 1480 (math 780, verbal 700) immigrated to the US four years ago
sat II: 780 average
ECs: above average (various state awards)
Taking EPGY calculus classes
so would stanford EA be a super reach for me? should I do EA or RD?
thanks a LOT!

Paulhomework- you have REALLY similar stats to me....... except im also first-gen college student. Stanford EA is not a super-reach for you by any means. Apply EA.

So if you have a passion, it may be better to go EA because there's a smaller chance that people with the same passion have applied?
Also, do they count Senior year grades in Regular decision?

Apply ea, unless there is another school you like better that you want to do ed/ea. There is really no disadvantage to ea as long as you have your app ready on time.

Guys. I have a 1340 SAT score. Do you think i should apply EA, becasue i have 12 APs, and research in Autoionization constants(chemistry), and designing algorithms(searching), and also another searching algorithm in process of implementation. I have also been selected for the USACO(chemistry olympiad). Stanford is my dream school, and i reaaaly want to go there. Any advice appreciated. also i am a indian citizen(India) living in America. so will also be applying as a intl cadidate in EA.

Hiamerica - the only reason you may consider not applying EA is if you are planing to retake your SAT (and think you can improve it significantly - well into 1400s...). Also, make sure you take the SAT II tests - you'll probably do better on those, and it will offset the SAT I score. 1340 will not kill your app., but you have to "make up" for it in other areas.
