Why do you want to transfer from UC Berkley? You look good :-)

By Finalgear (Finalgear) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 12:42 am: Edit

I grew up in northern california around Berkeley and honestly I wanted to go to Berkeley from the very beginning. If anybody is wondering I am not the typical berkeley student who was rejected, I actually never applied in my senoir year of HS. I quickly realized when I got into college that the view from the outside is a dramatically different experience on the inside. The thing that disturbs me most about Berkeley is the lack of community between the students. The discussions so far have been bland. There is so much competition that people are not willing to discus things in class, because there afraid peolple will steal their ideas. It sounds absurd, but some people are actually like this. The students are so far apart that it is hard to enjoy the classes. After awhile people just stop going to classes. When I took summer classes at Stanford, my experience was completely different. I felt that the students delved into the material more and the professors actually loved the material. The students tend to interact more and that helps me understand the material a lot better than just reading the material from a textbook. Although I am not denying that Berkeley is a good school and I encourage anybody who wants to be challenged to apply, but Berkeley just did not fit me personally.

Hi,

I'm a BME/English student at University of Houston on a full scholarship but I really hate the apathetic student body atmosphere.

I want to transfer to Stanford but I think my HS stats will keep me out; I had a cumulative 3.5ish GPA due to a poor Fresh/Soph year but earned all A's my junior/senior year. Right now I have a 4.0 with 21 semester hours and have been doing some research with proffessors as well as writing for an Engineering magazine.

Do I still got a shot for Stanford 2005 transfer?

Thanks
