I've lived in DC from when I was born through now (my senior year in high school), and I love the city, although I'm going somewhere else for college, for a change. I wanted to know if anyone had questions about DC, so that myself and other DC residents could help you. Especially questions regarding food, I love to eat in or near Georgetown.

is it a real pain trying to get out of georgetown as there are no metro stations close by?

If you don't have a car it can be inconvenient. If you're going elsewhere in NW, there are a few buses you can catch, but going elklsewhere in the city your best option is to go across the bridge to Rosslyn for the metro, or perhaps go to Foggy Bottom/GWU. Or you can take the bus to Dupont or Metro Center. But buses are better for a lot of destinations.
The place to be for college-age kids at night is Adam's Morgan, it's reachable by bus.
Take G2 Bus (destination Howard University)
Depart: TERMINAL;NW 37TH ST & NW O ST
Arrive: NW P ST & NW 20TH ST
Transfer
Take H1 Bus (destination Brookland Metro)
Depart: NW 20TH ST & NW P ST
Arrive: NW COLUMBIA RD & NW 18TH ST
These are directions to Columbia and Adam's Mill, the center of Adam's Morgan, and that website (http://rideguide.wmata.com/) can be very helpful if you're new to the city (or going somewhere unfamiliar, I use it from time to time) and using public transportation.

What about taking the GUTS (Georgetown U Transportation Service) bus? They take you right to the metro or places around DC.

um you can just take the GUTS to Wisconsin Ave, Rosslyn(then take the metro wherever), or to Dupont Circle(tons of stuff to do there and metro). M street is a walk away, with tons of stores there, as well as other college related stores(Gtown is usually seen as having one of the best college towns). There is SO much to do around the school, it isn't isolated, you don't have to worry about taking the metro to Foggy Bottom(i mean, really, do you WANT to go to GWU when you're at Georgetown???)or anywhere else.
