I know that wash U is in the top 25 schools in US news but is it recognized as a great college? Its above brown , cornell, and JHU in the rankings and its #12 which is pretty high, but when you tell someone "I am going to wash U" they dont say "wow thats amazing" liek they would if you said u went to JHU or cornell or some of the other schools that come after Wash U in ranks.
Any comments???

It's recognized as a great college by people who matter (ie-employers and grad schools). Wash U was one of my top choices when I got those acceptance letters (I went to Northwestern instead), but you'll find that it is not well known outside of the Midwest (hell I live in Indiana and none of my friends had ever heard of the school). But then again (say it once, say it a million times), the rankings don't really matter twenty years later when you have a great job making lots of money.

I would disagree..if anything, Wash U rather unknown IN the midwest (unless you live very close to St. Louis..I live in central Illinois and when I told people I was going to Wash U, they thought I was actually going to Washington state. On the other hand, I have a bunch of friends from the east and west coast that have applied to Wash U. I think that Wash U is primarily well-known by those searching for an elite school, but don't want to go Ivy.

I live in LA and lived in SF Bay area before. People here know more about U of Washington than WashU.

Wash U is very well known among adults and kids who are high academic achievers--because it's been so tough to get into the last few years, there's definitely an "ah ha!" tone in the voice when they hear of someone who goes there. As far as everyone else, what do you care, really?? It combines the best of academic challenge with the social atmosphere of warm, friendly, down-to-earth Midwest niceness.

People who are aware of things will have heard the name "Wash U." If not, they will have by the end of next week with the presidential debate and Jim Lehrer welcoming viewers to Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Oh my bad...it'll be Charles Gibson introducing the world to Wash U, not Jim Lehrer.
