I keep reading that the Greek life at NU is huge. Granted, I know those involved in the Greek life will tell me not to dismiss it immediately, but is the Greek life so overwhelming that you have to be involved in some sort of sorority to have any social life? Is it so bad that if I don't like the Greek system I shouldn't even bother with NU? Thanks!

Greek life at Northwestern is around 40%. That means, 60% of the population does not belong to a frat or soririty. No, it's not so huge that you won't have friends the rest of your freshman year. If you have friends before they rushed, they will be your real friends even if they are part of a sorority/fraternity. That's how I see it. If they disown or avoid you, then obviously they are not your friends.
