its small, kind of american colonial style buildings id say. Very park like once your on campus actually, although its surrounded by Baltimore. The architecture, with a few exceptions,is pretty uniform and the grounds are well maintained. The surrounding area isnt bad, theres a row of stores and restaraunts a block or two away. It has fairly distinct residential and academic sections of campus, but as i said its pretty small so its easy to get from one place to the next. The buildings are logically organized so your not running from one corner of campus to the other. The inside of the buildings are pretty normal college style buildings; the labs are pretty nice. The new Levering cafeteria thing is very nice compared to a lot of other ones and offers a youthful, casual atmosphere. If you want a better sense, go to: http://www.jhu.edu/news_info/news/audio-video/campusdrive.html they have a driving video tour of the campus to some corny music. Hope that helps!

The campus is absolutely stunning. An architect friend visited 12 schools last spring with his son, and found the Hopkins campus at the very top in terms of architectural balance, landscaping, and building design/appearance. He couldn't believe how lovely Hopkins looked after seeing it described as "unattractive" in a college guide. I went there a generation ago and found it quite lovely then. It's even better now because someone left a ton of money to brick all the walks, enlarge the gardens, and create a sculpture garden by the dorms. Most of the surrounding neighborhood is older, but attractive residential buildings with a few restaurants or cafes tucked in here and there.
