I've beeen considering northwestern for quite a while and I plan to apply to weinburg. I play the trumpet for my high school and I'm very active in the different music ensembles and I plan to continue playing in college. My question is, can a student at weinburg can take classes at other schools i.e. the school of music. Also, I know students from any school can participate in the music ensembles, but is it extremely challenging for a student that's not from the school of music to get in to the symphony orchestra for example, and if they do, do they feel out of place because they don't attend the school of music? Any comments from someone familiar with the music department would be appreciated, thanks.

Northwestern has a Five-Year WCAS/Music double-degree program. Check it out by visiting Northwestern's home page.

I've heard about the five year WCAS/Music double degree thing, but I'm not really interested in acually getting a degree in music, more just taking a few classes and participating in the Symphony orchestra in order to get to know people. My only worry is that I wouldn't really fit in if I go to the College and they all attend the music school. Does anyone know if this is true and if it is really difficult competing with the music majors for a seat in the ensembles?

I don't know much about this. But one time, I saw someone I knew performing and he was a BME major.
