This is confusing, but if I'm understanding UC GPA right, the highest GPA you could get is 4.14. Say you have a perfect 4.0 out of 28 individual grades. That's 112/28 = 4.0
The max number of Honors classes that gives extra points is 4. So you add 4 to the top:
116/28 = 4.14
So how are all these people getting 4.3's and 4.4's?

no honors points add .2 to your semiester gpa. you can have up to a 4.2 at the end of sophamore year and up to a 4.4 at the end of jr year. Also UC gpa only counts soph-jr year and only a-g courses. look it up on ucop for better information. also i dont think they ask you for your gpa on your application, i think they calculate it themseilf

4 Honors points total, right? How does that add 0.2? If you take 7 classes in 10th and 11th grade each, that's 14 classes X 2 = 28 grades. Add up the grade points and then add 4 Honors points, then divide by 28. It comes out to 4.14. I must not understand the concept of Honors points.

Unless you add 8 points...OHHHHH? Is that it?

I can bump this for the rest of my life if I have to. Who's holding out on me?

"The UC schools, as you probably already know, have students recalculate their GPAs, counting only the courses they specify and weighting honors and APs heavily (one full point on a four point scale). When that recalculation is completed, his GPA may rise--which it will have to do in order for him to be admitted."

So it's only 4 points. Then how do people get 4.5 or 4.6 GPA's?

It's been years since I filled out one of those applications. Don't know if they're the same, but I had a 4.65 when I filled out mine. Most of my junior/senior year classes were AP or honors. Those that weren't didn't come in any other format (like my French classes).
Why is there a max on honors points? My AP/honors courses were all 5 points each. Anyway, this was years ago so maybe things have changed...
Don't worry bout it though. High school grades don't mean squat in college once you're in.

It's eight semesters=8 points. Eight semesters=four years.

The highest UC GPA for 7 classes each year in 10th and 11th grade is a 4.29 UC GPA
For 6 classes each year is 4.333
People can get 4.5 uc gpa by having less uc Approved classes.
7 classes a year but only 5 of them are UC approved then the uc gpa can be higher.
gpa is higher but less uc classes
it is better to have more uc honor type clases and a lower gpa form it tha to have a super high uc gpa and fewer uc honor type classes
