Does anyone have opinions to offer about Ithaca? We're planning a visit this summer, but would love to hear from current or former students as well as people who have visited the campus. Thanks.

I visited Ithaca, and had an overnight stay there... I learned alot, and the atmosphere is great. i cant say the foot is awesome but it isnt bad. The teachers are nice as well as the students. The campus life is very connected and i had a really good expirience with all the staff and students i met there. I interviewed several ithaca students and they all loved the school. I would definetly would reccomend it.. I was planing on going, but it it too expensive atleast for 4 years.

Does anyone know how good Ithaca is for both television/film and liberal arts?

What's the Greek life/social life like? Would I be ostracized if I didn't want to go Greek? What's the city itself like? Aid?

I've visited Ithaca, and done tons of research on the school. I can tell you that there is practicly no Greek scene on the campus. Its like 1%. The city is not huge, don't expect New York, in fact, don't expect 1/20th of NY (its like 30,000 people, I read Ithaca's population halves in the summer when the kids from IC and Cornell go home), But if you like a small college town then Ithaca is nice

We just returned from a visit to Ithaca. The town reminded me of Berkeley or Ann Arbor -- lots of funky stuff. Ithaca is VERY good for both film/tv (they have a whole program on it) and liberal arts. I strongly suggest that you go to their web site and see when the next "Ithaca & You" date is. [We went to the October one.] This is a terrific all-day program. You'll be able to ask questions about your concerns. The facilities there are fabulous for theatre and music, and the other buildings aren't too shabby. I think it's really an "up and coming" school.

From everyone I talk to, they all love Ithaca College, but when we talk about Cornell, they all complain about the town as the main problem. I am so confused. Why does everyone complain about Cornell and not Ithaca College when we talk about the town? Anyways, please rtespond sometime before April, but any time in the next few months is fine. I'll be back in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

Wo4567, may I ask were you applying early action? I just wondered how you got your decision, as the web site indicates that Ithaca operate a "modified" rolling admission system, but also says it starts notifying students in April.
By Anya (Anya) on Friday, January 30, 2004 - 06:17 pm: Edit
hey, I applied regular decision and heard last week too. I also got a 'presidential scholarship'. they do do rolling admission, takes about 5-6 weeks for a decision, I don't know if they send everyone's letter early or what... that's all I know...
By Wo4567 (Wo4567) on Monday, February 02, 2004 - 05:16 pm: Edit

My D just heard this week that she got into Ithaca for vocal performance. She auditioned January 31 so she (and we) were surprised she heard so soon. Unfortunately, aid decisions don't come for another month or so. Nonwithstanding, she (and we) are very happy to have the acceptance so soon!
By Shennie (Shennie) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 12:21 pm: Edit
Sopranosmom - Congrats on the acceptance. My son is also accepted there, but going into science. He heard in January about his acceptance and was also offered 7000/year in merit. He is still very undecided, though, so I don't know where he will eventually go.

Just got into school of humanities and sciences at Ithica on a $10,000 presidential scholarship. It was my safety, but I'm still pretty excited. My stats are
3.3 UW GPA,
1520 SAT I (740V, 780M)
SAT II
Writing 750, Math IC 760, Math IIC 750
AP Spanish - 4 (not a native speaker)
Very few ECs (compared to most ppl on this site)
rank ~ top 23% of a highly competative public high school (98% go on to college)
Russian immigrant (don't know if that counts for anything)
I'm planning on majoring in communications so hopefully I'll also get into Syracuse or U Miami, but at least I have somewhere to go now. Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet!

Wo - Son has applied for and been accepted to Honors program. He has not yet decided if he is going to enroll there.

Son was just accepted and received "dean's" merit award of $3000. 1440 SAT1, (720, 720), 780 SAT II writing, 96 GPA, five AP classes. Beautiful school and a great town but.... too expensive.

My son is a junior at Ithaca Collge and he loves it. He is in the Arts & Humanities School. The town has a lot ot offer, the students are quite diverse and the college has been responsive to his needs. They actually created a major based on his, and a number of other students, requests and needs. He also helps teach a caving class at Cornell. There are many possibilities at that school and in the town.

I'll be going to Ithaca next year in the music school for percussion performance. I also want to do some kind of double major/degree with a science. If anyone who got in and is going wants to talk, e-mail me! (click on my user name)

Hey Collegehelp1234. I remember wondering the same thing when I looked at Cornell U's and Ithaca's views of the town. It depends of the kind of people at the school. At Ithaca they probably are content with life in a smaller city, and more on campus activity, while at Cornell the students might rather be in a big city atmosphere. I personally think Ithaca sounds like a great town. I plan to visit this summer sometime, but I am not much of a big city girl. (That's bad for me since I want to perform on Broadway someday.) Anyway, hope this helped.

Hi, I'm a Chinese Malaysian male studying in Singapore, and I hope to do my undergraduate studies in the US next Fall (refer to my post "Dreaming of Yale but seeking safeties" in the "Chances" forum).
I haven't quite decided on my colleges (I'm very sure about Yale ED, and about Oberlin and JHU/Peabody's double-degree programs with their music conservatories, but other than that I'm still uncertain). Ithaca is one of the colleges I'm considering, but I'm concerned about the financial aid - it's listed in the CIS financial aid database (http://highered.cois.org/Download/FinancilAid/2003_04_FinancialAid_US_Only.xls) as having given financial aid to 183 international students in 2003/2004, the average award being about USD18K. The website, however, says that it gives very little financial aid to international students. Does anyone have the real scoop on Ithaca's financial aid for international students? My expected family contribution would be around USD10-12K.
Also, any info on the admission rate of international students, specifically Asians?
Please advise, thanks.
