Can anyone help me by telling me what kind of physics program NU has. I am looking at it as compared to Stanford, U of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign, and Rose-Hulman. (and maybe Harvey-Mudd) I hear their engineering is good, but I want a good physics undergrad so I can get placed in a great grad school.

Any stuff besides the link? I want dirt and comparisons. NU's website won't say if it blows or not.

The graduate physics rankings for the schools you mentioned are as follows: #3 Stanford, #7 University of Chicago, #9 University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and #28 Northwestern. My personal preference list would probably be: Stanford, Chicago, Northwestern, UIUC, Harvey Mudd, and Rose-Hulman.

Why do you say Northwestern over uiuc? I am a prospective undergrad at these schools.

Northwestern beats UIUC on quality of life/surroundings. The caliber of the student body at NU is also higher than at UIUC.
But then again, these are your typical generic public vs. private arguments. Go and visit. Which one feels right for you?
