Does anyone know when we'll know for sure what our schedule is for the first semester? I just got an email from my proseminar professor (I didn't get my first choice, but oh well), but other than that I don't know if I got what I signed up for. Does anyone know when we find out?

I don't know. They took it off of Student Access+ (probably cuz I kept clicking it and they're vengeful). According to the NSO guide though, we do add/drop the day before classes start. That's so late to know for sure.

Well I think it was my proseminar teacher. He didn't identify himself, which I thought was kind of odd, but...I think I got my second choice, Islam and the West. I wanted the National Security Law. Yeah, Fallentear, I noticed that they took it off Access+...I thought they did it just to spite me, but it's good to know it was directed at at least two people!

Today my daughter called her dean to discuss the letter she got today concerning her AP credits. While she had him on the phone she asked about the lateness in the scheduling but he told her there is a time period for drop/adds so not to worry.
I still think that is really late. That means all these kids will be in the bookstore getting books at the same time! I personally think it is bizarre that they (GU) don't have a preregistration period on campus so you can meet your dean face to face.
And yes, Solenis, her schedule is not on Access anymore either. No news on her proseminar but I hope she gets at least one of her 3 choices. Was Islam one of your choices or did they stick you in there? Did you figure out your schedule with your #1 choice in its slot? Does the Islam choice fit in the schedule you figured out?
Sorry so many questions.

well, we'll find out textbooks in class, as I don't think they tell us before that(at least that's how it was at the summer college). You literally will have to run right after class to get the textbook, b/c mostly everyone will as well, lol. So have your credit card/cash/etc ready on Sept. 1.

I might want to add a class, so hopefully they have space...

Well, I *think* the email was from the professor. The initials were the same as what I remember his being. He didn't sign it, didn't say who he was...it was a little disconcerting. Islam was my second choice. I figured out my schedule with my #1 proseminar, because it threw a wrench into my master plan, so I signed up for things around it. I made it so that I could have my #2 proseminar with not too much difficulty, but still....blah.

I emailed my dean about it, and he said that, while he was out of the country and wasn't completly up-to-date, schedules wouldn't be out until the end of this week at the earliest, so he didn't know how the professor would have found out his course list. He also thought it was odd that the professor didn't sign his name....

Maybe I'm just being paranoid because I want to believe it was all a big mix up and I'm in my 1st choice class....lol.

I got Islam and the West, which was my first choice. The prof didn't sign his email, but I know his initials are jle (John Esposito).

I'm feeling stressed about courses and such. I guess I just feel a bit out of the loop and I'm worried that I'm going to be a clueless, lost freshman when I arrive on campus! I hope all this last-minute scheduling stuff doesn't turn out to be a nightmare.

whats a proseminar? :-/

By Clipper (Clipper) on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 - 09:04 am: Edit

Chicane - it is for SFS students only. The students had to sign up for 3 choices when they were doing their schedules. You aren't guaranteed your first choice so you have to put a second choice too.

From the SFS booklet:
"Proseminars are small interdisciplinary courses designed to train students in the academic reading and writing skills necessary for success in the SFS program. Each proseminar is limited to 15 students..."

Whoever is your proseminar professor is also your mentor for the year.
