Would like to apply early decision to Wellesely, but am worried about becoming locked into an inadequate aid package if I am accepted. My parents earned $64K last year, with $44K taxable, and have modest assets. Can anyone give me an idea what type of aid to expect from Wellesley? Thanks much.

Wellesley supposedly gives only need based aid. D is starting there in 2 weeks. I've heard 'stories' that some students with exceptional talents get other than need based aid. I'm waiting to see if that's true. I'd guess by your figures that you would qualify for a ton of aid, most of that in grants (free), and probably about $5-6K per year in loans and work study. You should contact admissions now and see how you stack up for admissions, and contact financial aid now and see how you stack up there. If there is any question in your mind, wait for the regular deadline. I really don't think it affects anything at Wellesley. Also, apply to schools that are more safe. You'll be amazed at how much $$ you may be offered by a school that has merit scholarships. Good luck.
