By Jaug1 (Jaug1) on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 02:04 am: Edit

Alright all. I have not seen this thread on the boards yet, but for those who are 100% sure they are applying to Stanford SCEA post your stats! Good Luck to all applicants!!!

Based on what you see, everybody should comment on each others chances. I think it would be a really good thing to get a ring of Stanford SCEA applicants all cheering each other on during app season.

Here are my stats:

http://www.prstats.com/2009/display.php?user=Jaug1

Good luck to all once again! I look forward to having further conversations with all SCEA applicants as well as current students!

Senior Year taking: Linear Algebra and Group Theory, AP Econ (both Macro and Micro), AP BC Calc, AP French Lit (2nd year of 2 year course), AP Physics, Web Design, and two english electives.
Essentially hardest curriculum at my school, which is probably best or 2nd best in MO (though that says comparatively little...)

11th: Rensselaer Medal for best junior in math and science.
9-11: Detur = highest GPA.

Science Olympiad: 4th in two state competitions.
Mock Trial: Possibly biggest commitment; 2nd and 8th in state tournament.

Soccer: 3 years JV, 1 varsity: team placed 5th in state.
Peer Tutoring
Model UN
5 months training for spirit of st. louis marathon, including a 2hr50min 22 mile run, then broke femur, which really sucked but will make a cool essay topic

Numbers and ECs not bad, not outstanding, but good enough to be in the pool =)

By Manchu_Princess (Manchu_Princess) on Sunday, August 15, 2004 - 12:42 am: Edit

More people seem to be apply to Stanford early than any other school this year (I can tell from cc posts and talking to people around me)
Well here comes a great competition for us, good luck everyone!

jcm525 - are you retaking your SAT?

By Jcm525 (Jcm525) on Sunday, August 15, 2004 - 10:37 pm: Edit

Indeed I am retaking my SAT; it was my first time, with no prep and I scored equivalent of a 1500 on the psat. Could you please spell your name phonetically?

By Jcm525 (Jcm525) on Sunday, August 15, 2004 - 10:44 pm: Edit

I think Feuler's in; not just because of 1590 SAT, but more importantly because of USAMO, and his obvious devotion to mathematics seen with the EPGY classes and competitions. For the rest of us, we've got a decent shot.

By Entropicgirl (Entropicgirl) on Monday, August 16, 2004 - 03:45 am: Edit

White girl from CA
1600, 800 Writing, 800 Physics, 770 IIc
4.0 UW GPA, 1 or 2 out of 504
EC's focusing on science/tech and educationy things, which feed into my major (physics or biology, in that order) and career plans (academia!), but nothing hardcore or awards-ful. also a bit of violin and politics, but just a LITTLE.
essays will probably be an accurate reflection of who I am, so if they don't like them, I wouldn't have been happy there anyway.

By Shjanama77 (Shjanama77) on Monday, August 16, 2004 - 09:05 am: Edit

jcm525 - are you asking me???...well if you are...that isn't my name!!!..lol

By Tomohawke (Tomohawke) on Monday, August 16, 2004 - 09:45 am: Edit

I dont see how this post can help anyone but make people more worried about their application, or more smug about their chances. Either way, who really wins?

Special Recognitions/Award:
I've gotten the National German Award twice, have always gotten a "Presidential Award" on the AATG test (American Association of Teachers of German).

I was a TASP (Telluride Association Summer Program) Finalist and Alternate (they pick 68-70 kids from the US based on PSAT scores, essays, application, and interview) for a rigorous summer program...

I received the Music Award (but that was only from my school)

I was nominated for (and maybe accepted??) the Cum Laude Society by my school with 7 other students in my grade... but my school doesn't rank so I'm not exactly sure where I stand... probably in the top 5 or 6, though I'm REALLY not willing to bet anything on that (my school is both tiny and extremely competitive).

I'm going to be in the "Who's Who" of American Students book

I got accepted to go to Amherst's "Diversity Open House" in October (not sure if that counts/matters) and might go to the National Law FOrum for a week in October as well

Also (though it isn't really my doing), my highschool is pretty well-respected with colleges, which I heard does give a little leverage? I think about 7% of our graduating class went to Harvard (though 10% were accepted, I believe) nearly all Early Decision/Action, and probably a third went to some kind of Ivy League or Stanford.

So this is the cream of the crop, eh? The scary thing is that you guys CONDENSE your list of EC's so much and they still look huge.

After reading this I'll hate to look inside my underwear tonight. There'll be a rainbow of colors.

Oliviakang-I thought you were applying to Harvard EA

By Oliviakang (Oliviakang) on Tuesday, September 07, 2004 - 11:25 pm: Edit

i was... and then I got my stanford application and now I'm wavering again... lol, I know that I should know by now (especially with all the posts I put in harvard/stanford threads comparing and stuff) but I guess I'm still basically on the fence.

I plan to visit both again soon so I'll hopefully have the final "plans" soon ;)

I sure hope people who have posted their stats here are the cream of the crop. Wow, this is definitely a genius people's club.

I'm sure most of you'll will get in, especially
that dude Fueler!!

10th: Number Theory (3 credits) 11th: Multivariable Calculus (7), Linear Algebra (4), Modern Algebra (3); 12th: Differential Equations (4), Real and/or Complex Analysis (3 each), Point-Set Topology (3)

woooooowwwwwwww ok now i thought i was advanced in math for taking multivariable calc!!!!

Olivia-I think harvard has a higher EA acceptance rate 23% vs. Stanford's 19%. That's the part that was making me debate.

By Oliviakang (Oliviakang) on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 02:15 am: Edit

oh wow, i didn't know that. Do they have roughly equal numbers of EA applicants too? (they probably do otherwise the percentage comparisons wouldn't matter, but that's just the neurotic side of me coming through)

I'm just freaking out about how the interviews are run at this point.

By Irock1ce (Irock1ce) on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 05:52 pm: Edit

we have to do interviews for stanford??

By Suprmodl29 (Suprmodl29) on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 06:48 pm: Edit

i thought stanford didn't do interviews at all!

By Jaug1 (Jaug1) on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 08:00 pm: Edit

Stanford does not give interviews.

By Jellybean24 (Jellybean24) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 06:34 pm: Edit

Irock1ce could definitely get in Yale EA, if that's where you want to go. Impressive.

By Irock1ce (Irock1ce) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 03:44 am: Edit

Jellybean24 - Thanks a lot, But i really realized that I want to be near my parents since I am an only child and I am very close with my parents. Not to mention that they have minimal english skills and may need me at any time.... So i guess i am applying to Stanford EA. Good luck to everyone! And for those are getting intimated, dont! this forum is VERY VERY self-selective and the actual pool is no where near as competitive as the people who post on this forum.

By Jellybean24 (Jellybean24) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 10:54 am: Edit

Irock1ce, good luck to you. I hope you do well. And I agree that this forum is very self-selective, but if you look at the other school forums, they're not nearly as insane. Which kind of scares me. But I think it's true. I mean, if the Stanford SAT 50th percentile is about 1380-1560 (roughly), very few people on here have below 1500.

By Irock1ce (Irock1ce) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 03:20 pm: Edit

Jellybean- But chances are... a majority of these people who post this SCEA subject is going to get in. These are REALLY the cream of the crop. I mean, im surprised a lot of these kids arent making it onto the USA Academic first team (or wtvr its called). Because these are not your typical college applicants...almost everyone whose applying EA on this forum somehow has at least a 1450, average at like like 730 on the SAT2s and have a GPA of over 3.85 with at least 2 major awards or leadership positions. The applicant pool is going to be no where nearly as competitive as people on this forum say or think it is. Everyone talks about the importance of the SATs even when its like a 1450 to a 1480.

Personally for me, I'm hoping that all my stats and ecs will just boost my first-gen immigrant status to get me into Stanford. It's almost like I'm an URM. I know everyone else is going to show off one of their other things as well. I am damn sure that like 75%+ of the people who are on this forum posting their stats.... will get in. Good luck to everyone. And i hope you get in Jellybean. California rocks.

By Jellybean24 (Jellybean24) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 03:37 pm: Edit

Good luck again Irock1ce. I agree with you. I think a lot of the people on this forum have an amazing shot. But I met a lot of people this summer applying EA who just didn't have the grades/scores/ecs these people do. I'm going to tour soon...

By Irock1ce (Irock1ce) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 03:41 pm: Edit

Haha ive toured Stanford twice.. i didnt like the campus too much.. it was TOO big. But i got over it since i realized that I really want to be near my parents.
