Discus: Individual Schools: Top Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs): Grinnell College: Pre-application
By Asianalto (Asianalto) on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 05:56 pm: Edit

Does anyone know if there's a length to the questions on the pre-app?

Also, when it says to list the other colleges to which you have applied for admission, does that mean that I should list all the other colleges to which I WILL be applying to? Because if I fill this out, I will have applied to no other colleges, as it is august.

Thanks.

There is no length per say. But originality always helps eh? And if you haven't applied to any colleges yet and don't intend on doing so before sending in the pre-app, then leave that space empty. The "colleges I'm applying to" lets Grinnell know what kind of schools you're aiming for and gives them a fair idea of how many admitted students would actually enroll. I think the reason I got my scholarship was because of the schools I'd applied to and gotten into and Grinnell wanted to compete with them.

Thanks! I haven't quite finalized my list yet, and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be pegged as some kind of dishonorable applicant by not listing all the colleges I applied to, but since I know I want to apply to Grinnell, I want to get this pre-app out of the way soon.

It's AUGUST!!! Are you applying early decision or something? You can fill out the app except for that question and have it ready to go... but seriously, aren't you getting a bit ahead of yourself?

This is said by someone who first heard about Grinnell last October, applied in January, got in with a scholarship, and will be attending very soon.

But whatever works for you, I guess.

Hey..its never too early to apply! At least then the admin gets to know your apliation as an "eager..really wants to attend" one and you stick n their minds..always a good thing! I hadn't heard of Grinnell untill I applied to it as a "why not". Funny that the afterthought college became the one I ended up attending!D But Asianalto..don't worry..its always good to keep up with your applications- my dad would love u!:D

I'm getting more and more excited about meeting all the new first yrs! If any of the new guys on the football team are on this board..welcome to Grinnell! I won't be joining you guys yet..but soon very very soon.

On a different note- what other schools are you thinking about applying to asianalto?

By Asianalto (Asianalto) on Friday, August 13, 2004 - 01:46 am: Edit

Brown and Haverford are really the only other two right now. I've never seen Grinnell, but everything I've heard makes it sound really appealing, and the other two I have visited and also love, so I figure if I can just get into any one of those three, I'll be happy as the proverbial clam. But since I really only want to apply to schools that I want to go to, I want to make these few applications as strong as possible.

That sounds like very good planning. You should most definitely visit Grinnell before making up your mind. I think the campus is the prettiest of the three, but then again I'm biased:D. You should look up the prospective student weekends in the fall and try and come for one of them.
