Can anyone tell me what the math placement exam that we have to take during NSO will be like? Even though it's just a placement exam, I don't want to totally embarrass myself on it. Are the questions mostly on basic algebra/trig/precal stuff, or should I expect more advanced calculus and statistics, too?
Thanks for any help here...I like to know what to expect on math tests. =)

Are you MSB or one of the other colleges? If you are in MSB, there are 20 questions on a computer ALL rooted in PreCalc. For the other colleges, there is not really any calculus and statistics, but a lot of PreCalc and advanced algebra.

we all have to take the placement exam? Even if we took AP?

and even if we didn't choose a calc course?

Oh, I'm in the COL, not MSB, so just questions on precal and algebra is good to know. =) We take it on a computer and it's only twenty questions, or is that only for MSB?

The 20-question computer test is for MSB students only. Everyone else gets the paper test consisting of 50 questions. Cornell, I'm not sure if everyone has to take the placement test. I think, depending on your school and AP scores, you can bypass a math requirement or two. My friend got a 3 on the AP Calc exam and received an elective credit. I think, with a 4 or 5, you have fulfilled a calc requirement. Don't quote me on any of this - lol! I'm pretty sure this is how it is, though.

Okay, the 50 questions sound better, because 20 is just too short for me. =) I *thought* you could get out of the math placement if you took a math SATII; I know that I got out of the foreign language placement because I took a language SATII. I'm not entirely sure though since I'm having trouble finding this information.

For SFS I don't think math is required - my daughter does not have to take any math, english, or science. Anyone know if you get those "free electives" do you get actual credits for them that count toward your 120 credits you need to graduate? Sure wish they had a summer new student orientation where you actually meet your counselor and discuss these items. It seems weird to get your schedule the day before classes begin.
I don't know about the language placement exam though. I found something that said you could take a spanish placement exam online but then one place it said to wait until you get on campus to take the placement exam. I guess I will have to get my daughter to call and find out.
