Discus: Individual Schools: Top Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs): Wesleyan University: Letter in response to psat scores
By 0atmeal (0atmeal) on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 - 08:45 pm: Edit

after taking the psats, I was able to send my scores out to a few schools and Wesleyan being my DREAM school was one of them. I recently got a letter from Wesleyan to let me know they had received my score and to congratulate me. I was really excited and hope that sending my score will help somewhat in admissions. Does the letter/sending of score really mean anything?
Thanks so much.

I don't know; I got that letter, too.

A layman's guess:

I think that sending PSAT scores is basically just a combination of "hey, looka what I can do!" and "I like you."

So the school knows you're interested, and that you did well (ostensibly).

I'm not guessing it's huge, but I bet the report you sent gets filed, and the adcom sees it.

By the way, I thought the letter was a nice touch.

Yeah, I noticed that, too.

The PSAT has no bearing on admissions. If you checked off the "college search" thing on the test, you'll get material from tons of colleges based on your score (which is a good thing, generally). It's all part of making sure the most talented students know what their options are.

However, if you did well on the PSAT, chances are you'll do well on the SAT as well, and that definitely does count. Good luck!

No, this wasn't that kind of spam. We designated (three?) colleges to receive our scores, and Wes was one.
