I plan on bringing a laptop to Berkeley. Should I keep it with me at all times in order to prevent theft? Is it safe in my room? Is there anything lockable in my room where I could put my laptop?

you can buy a lock to lock your laptop to a desk or the wall or something. you'll want to shoot yourself if you try to carry it around everywhere.

dont put too must trust into them, although they are better than nothing and will deter most people, but tools can easily cut through it

huh? i doubt people will roam the residence halls with powertools in hand in order to steal somebody's laptop.

just stuff it in an inconspicuous drawer somewhere, and lock your door whenever the room's empty. make your roommate do the same. if your laptop goes missing, you know that your roommate is a theiving bastard, so you can then proceed to steal his laptop.

but you really have to learn to trust your roommate. you're going to be living with him for a whole year, after all. i bet right now he's worried that you'll steal his laptop as well.
