Saw the topic on Princeton review. Well, being that the area around Berkeley appears to be a stoner-haven, just curious to hear from actual students how rampantly people smoke the ganja in our around campus.

Are there an equal amount of smokers as there are drinkers? Or is the student body relatively drug free? I've always heard rumors that Berkeley students are smart stoners. just curious.

I definitely know a lot of Berkeley students that get stoned, many quite frequently. They also tend to be the same students that make the grade curves easier to deal with for those of us who only occasionally party. =)

Seems that many of these students who were stellar in HS, while mom and dad were watching them, end up being totally irresponsible once they no longer have supervision. Almost everyone that gets into Berkeley is brilliant and a top student, but not all of them stay that way. Drugs, alcohol, partying, or just freedom from the yoke of constant supervision - they fall out and don't keep pace with their former ways. Personally, I enjoy a few types of libation - but a smart student will keep such uses infrequent and will probably avoid the crowds that make them a more central part of their lives.

(And the SF Bay Area, in general, is probably the mecca of stonerland. Outside of Oregon, I've never seen a place where more people have access to, and partake of, marijuana. Berkeley is the 'crown jewel' for such use, but predominantly by the older hippy/vegan/new age types more so than students.)

Well, Kryptic. Cannabis could be generally unhealthy, not only because of giving too much appointment to partying. THC is lasting a very long time in brain, even from the first use.
I do not remember, where I have found this information, but i remember it was quite authentic source.

Well.. i go to the local Berkeley H.S. so I guess I can tell you about the local weed smoking scene. Berkeley has a LOT of weed and you can get it quite easily (go to telegraph, look for guys standing around). People smoke it everywhere and theres several VERY VERY good spots on campus (near tennis courts by the creek, the benches by the redwoods, not to mention Tilden Park a block away from campus). The best part is, the Berkeley police is some of the most lenient police you will ever meet. As long as your not smoking weed in front of them and puffing on that •••• in their face, they will not do anything. Same with alcohol. As long as you're not doing anything super stupid, the berkeley cops do not care. They'll come and talk to you and set you on your way. HOWEVER, the UCB Police are anal biatches. Watch out for them.
