Can anyone tell me if I have a good shot for RD? My grandpa, aunt and uncle all went to GU undergrad, and my aunt and uncle do alot of alumni interviewing. Will this have any effect? No money donations though.

Since you are asking.....
I think you need to put some safeties on your list of colleges.
Your class rank is a little low for Georgetown but you might be able to pull it up. Your SATs are low too.
But heck, who knows nowadays... apply and see what happens. Don't let people on this board discourage you from trying but just try to have some safeties. NC has some great schools - UNC!

Keep up the good work!!

double post sorry

Yeah, I'm worried about safeties. I will probably drop a few of my schools that I'm not so interested in like Haverford or Tufts if I can't get my SAT up. I've only taken it once, so I hope I can get it up to around a 1450. And I have a pretty strong upward curve that should help out my GPA.

You don't think GWU is a safety at this point? I wasn't sure about it, but was kinda hoping so. Maybe not.

On a somewhat unrelated note (I usually don't weigh in on chances because I really have no idea!), if you send A.P. scores to colleges, I would really recommend that you cancel any scores less than three (I think it costs something like $5 to cancel a single score). Good luck!

Sorry Yuge - I missed George Washington U.
Yes, I would think that would be a safety for you.
Keep up the good work!

ah George Washington...Has anyone read the April Fools article on GWU in the Hoya? It was HILARIOUS! Sorry, I was in an elitist mood, lol.

Anyway, I suggest that you don't send ANY scores to ANY college. You report whichever scores you want on the application. It's easier, and saves the money of canceling or sending to each school. Only when you get into a school and accept should you send a grade report(basically when you take APs in senior year). Just remember not to put down any 2s and you'll be safe.

AP scores mean very little. A girl from my school had a 1 on Chem and got into Duke. Another got a 2 on US Hist and got into Stanford.

What if you sent the AP scores for free to GU? (Since I decided to bubble it in because my app file was open by the time I received the AP reports..)

Also, do you think my C in Env. Sci can be counterbalanced with a 4 on the AP exam?

By Hoyadan (Hoyadan) on Monday, August 16, 2004 - 10:15 pm: Edit

I'd be skeptical about that, since it sounded like the grade in an AP class ahd much more weight than the grdae on the test, at least that's what I understood from the information session.

Yeah, don't report your scores!

There's no need..and if I want credit, I'll give them the scores AFTER I get in...BWA HA!

(1 on the AP Physics test...GO ME!!)

ALL of my daughter's scores (even from elementary school) were on her transcript that was sent to the colleges from her high school. No leaving off any scores for kids in this school system. Better check with your counselor before you spend the money to cancel scores.

Wow, that's no good. The head guidance counselor at my school said that it was illegal to put SAT and other testing scores on the HS transcript, but I guess that's only for my state or county.
