I got my housing assignment yesterday and it says my room dimensions are 12x19 (I'm in a double in South Quad). That seems huge! Does anyone know if my room is just atypically large, most rooms are that big (the one I saw on my tour was definitely NOT), or perhaps it's just a typo? Thanks

-Andrea

That is certainly larger than rooms in most of the other Michigan dorms (and most double rooms in South Quad too, I'd imagine).

I suppose it's possible, as not all rooms are perfectly identical. But, given the housing crunch at Michigan this year, I kind of doubt the room is actually that large.

Andrea, your room is regular double? If yes I think yours is large compared to others.

A friend of mine got 11 x 12 regular double @ markley (this is super small IMO), another is 9 x 17 regular double @ barbour.

Mine is Bursley deluxe double and it is 15 x 19. Now everyone just wanna kill me. =P

By Ako86 (Ako86) on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 01:37 pm: Edit

Yep, just a regular double. I hope it's not a mistake :)

Oy, 11x12. That's smaller than my bedroom at home, and I'm the only one in it!

I got a 14x15 economy triple.

My son's double room in East Quad is 10x17. I just hope he is lucky and gets a room with a sink.

U of M housing is kinda shady...

By Nirvanarageatm (Nirvanarageatm) on Saturday, August 07, 2004 - 03:29 pm: Edit

yeah it is...they fill all the good halls (markley, south quad) with the people who send in their housing •••• in april, and then take 10 weeks for everyone else. It sucks because you may be waiting to hear from non-rolling colleges on April 1, and then you have to take the time to make your decision, and if you do choose U-Mich as I did, it takes longer for your housing to be set up, and you get stuck in a sh**y residence all. (I'm in East Quad, which sucks a WHOLE lot). Oh well.

Anyone have an idea what the approximate room dimensions are for a typical double in Mosher-Jordan (on the 3rd floor - UIR)? I checked my assignment online and the room size was "not available."

By Strawberry (Strawberry) on Saturday, August 07, 2004 - 11:26 pm: Edit

ohh! I'm in a double in mojo.. I'm in UIR too! they said 11 by 15...

Hey Nirvanarageatm , what's so bad about East Quad? Maybe you can move if it's so awful there. We just went back a couple of days ago and I think the dorm is pretty good. Are you in the Residential College? If so, you have to live in East Quad for 2 years. At least the location is good.

"what's so bad about East Quad?"

East Quad has long had the reputation of attracting 'different' people.

but yes, the location is nice.

By Nirvanarageatm (Nirvanarageatm) on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 - 09:37 pm: Edit

I'm not in residential college, but the food there sucks, you don't get to meet as many freshman as you would in Markley, and the social atmosphere there kind of sucks as well. What do you mean by "different" people though Kazz....prob. more reasons to not like my dorm.

Andrea, I'll also be in South Quad this fall. Same deal. 12x19 double room. Seems big but I hear the rooms in South Quad are on the large side compared to other dorms. Hopefully there's no mistake. What house are you in?

By Ako86 (Ako86) on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 02:42 pm: Edit

Umich08,

I'm in Hunt

By Umich08 (Umich08) on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 05:27 pm: Edit

Also in Hunt. Where are you from? I'm from Boston so I don't know many people out there. Hoping to get to know some people before I go.

Daughter got an "overflow" triple in Markley....23 feet by 14 feet. sounds nice and large; no building block furniture, though.

By Alanako (Alanako) on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 11:18 pm: Edit

UMich08, I'm from out of state (Iowa) and will be in Hunt too. I don't know anyone else either. My email is in my profile; I can give you my IM if you'd like to talk sometime.
