I'm wondering what clothes I should bring to school. I'm from Wisconsin, so I'm not worried about the cold, but I need to know what students tend to wear around campus and to class. Jeans or sweats or nicer clothing?

On a similar note... I am from Florida and know I am totally unprepared for the cold. I was wondering what people wear out at night because I've been out shopping with my friends going to University of Florida and UM and somehow I don't think their short skirts and tank tops will cut it in Chicago. Do people wear jeans and stuff out or something nicer?

Go to the NU Sophomore Taking Questions thread... ask your question and you shall be enlightened!

You know the weather in Chicago is bad. With NU's late start, don't plan on wearing shorts for more than a few days in September. It's long pants from mid-September to early May. Evanston isn't a formal place; jeans are fine, so are dressier options. BTW, Evanston has several nice, non-chain clothes stores that are only a 5 minute walk from campus, so don't worry whether you have the right thing or not. I see a lot of short, fitted jackets that will be great for Sept-Oct and April-May. From Novenber through March you'll want a fleece or down jacket with a waterproof shell. Don't skimp on this by any means.
