-reason my 10th grade has almost no activities is that i moved to wisconsin (from california) right after freshman year.. so i was basically in totally new environment, new school, etc.
-SAT SCORE: first time: 1190;; second time: 1380
-ACT SCORE: 28 first time
-GPA: around.. 3.9? weighted. last time i checked, i was in top 12% of class.. not too good for colelges i'm considering .. i hope it's higher right now, 12% was in the middle of my junior year
-rank is fortysomething out of 420
-took two AP's junior year, one AP senior year
all my other classes since freshman year (except freshman year english, sophomore year chemistry) have been honors
-will be taking SATII's... not sure what subjects yet.
-GPA is 3.8something unweighted

If you were to get in I would probably say you would have to do it ED. Taking more AP classes would help you a lot. My SAT and ACT scores were simmilar to yours and I got in, but my rank was a lot higher. I actually jumped from 22 to 9 in my senior year alone based on my AP classes. Your activities look pretty decent, just make sure you stay involved your senior year. Make sure that your essay and reccs are awesome, that will help you out immensely. ED will help out a lot too, but don't do it if you are not sure that NU is the school that you really want to go to. I think they admited about 50% ED this year and only 14% Regular, that's really tough. Good Luck.

does anyone knwo the avg gpa/sat/act for early decision-admitted students?

By Stuckat410 (Stuckat410) on Friday, July 30, 2004 - 09:03 pm: Edit

and everyoen else... what do u think? waste of an ED, or not? and i definitely want to go to NU, 100% no matter what...

don't colleges use the rank one had at the end of the junior year? I know our school doesn't recompute rank until the end of a semester or even year.

I was like 36/80 in class rank (although my school doesn't divulge rankings; it's also a pretty competitive school), my GPA was 3.4 or so and I still got in ED. I probably wouldn't have RD. So don't underestimate your chances.

Well, as for recomputing rank, it happened at the beginning of senior year as some teachers changed some students grades based on AP scores. My submitted rank was the one at the end of my first semester senior year because I applied RD. I was ranked at 11 then out of 435 in a not too competative school with a 3.85 UW GPA and 4.06 W.

Koyaanisqatsi--- If you don't mind me asking, what was your SAT score? Did you take any SAT II's? And are your stats similar to mine? Did you have a very challenging schedule? Sorry for so many questions-but you and I seem to have similar stats... :)

Thanks you guys, for all your help!

SAT ended up at 1440, I did take SATIIs and did pretty good. Yeah, I had a relatively challenging schedule, and went to a pretty competitive (or at least prestigious) school. But I wasn't that competitive, or i didn't try to be.

Write really good essays. If you're even close to the borderline, a fantastic (and that doesn't just mean well written; more like what the admissions office wants to read) essay (or set of essays) can absolutely get you in.

any other opinions? btw, thanks koyaanisqatsi...

If you're 100% sure you want to go to Northwestern, do ED! That's what ED is for. You'll probably get into easier schools RD anyway. Since you're sure you like Northwestern, you'd probably apply RD even if you didn't apply ED, and then if you end up getting accepted ED to wherever else AND RD to Northwestern, you'll be banging your head on the wall. Do every little thing you can to tip the odds in your favor. It'll add up. Good luck!
