Discus: Individual Schools: Top Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs): Amherst College: "A"
By Kimfuge (Kimfuge) on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 06:08 am: Edit

how difficult is it to get an "A" at Amherst? I am aware that sciences are generally more tough, but how about courses like history?

an amherst student told me that most people get A's

The average grade at amherst is a b+, and there is a good deal of grade inflation there. but, As are hard to come by, even in most History classes, I'd say. But, as long as youre motivated and do all your work, as I did as a freshman, As are not that difficult to get, but many kids at amherst have other things on their minds than getting As, fortunately.

how many hours do students study for each class (ouside of class) to get an A, for example intro chem?

By Virginia12345 (Virginia12345) on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 08:14 pm: Edit

not too terribly much for an intro chem course I would think. depends on classes other than that, although reading takes a lot of time for some humanities classes

how much is a lot of homework? im only use to about 1 hour everyday, and thats stretchin it.

Jeez. 3-4 hours a day is reasonable for a tough high school course load. How do you do problem sets, write and re-write papers, do language homework, and then all the busy work that gets larded in in an hour?

Yeah an hour ...that is way too much .. j/k as long it is no more than 4 hours on a regular day and 10 on a busy day i'am fine

By Chrisy (Chrisy) on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 - 02:38 pm: Edit

i always waited until the morning (1 am) of a test to do all my homework. i have no long term memory.

hmmm, so when classes are dismissed about 3, you can finish your hwk by 7 and chill.

By Tdizzo (Tdizzo) on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 01:40 pm: Edit

HAHAHAHAHAHA...if you don't have anything to do with your life in the afternoon...i.e. work, play sports, work-out, lab. Anybody that is willing to go straight from class to homework so they can "chill" at night is not a true college student...but a relentless study hound with (going out on a limb here) nothing to do BUT study

how cruel. i like you tdizzo.
