Hey. I applied to G-town as a international political economy major at SFS for fall 2004 as a sophomore transfer and ended up getting rejected :(. I was transfering from Ithaca College, where I was a business administration major. Because of financial reasons, I will be attending the University of Maryland at College Park for my sophomore year, where I will be a political science major. I've thought about applying to G-town again, yet there is the possibility that I will enjoy UMCP. But after talking to a G-town adcom, I have decided to apply again.

So I decided to create a new thread so that we Georgetown transfer hopefuls can come together and help each other with the application. I wish you guys lots of luck!

Transfering from: University of Maryland at College Park

Major: Political Science

School at G-town: Either SFS or G-town College (I need to decide between international politics or political economy

Thanks Julia! BTW, can you please post your stats?

By Juliadearaujo (Juliadearaujo) on Sunday, July 11, 2004 - 08:55 pm: Edit

uh... my stats are a little unusual, like super odd, not low or anything just a complicated story as to why i applied to gu as a transfer, but i will be glad to tell you personally, just email me or add me to your msn list (julia_lisboa, aim is juliadearaujo)

so i think it would be better if i only gave advice with regards to the essay and classes

first, you should try to fulfill as many required classes for the SFS bachelor as you can now at your current univ., that will show them that you honestly want to pursue the SFS bachelor, and you will also have a better time writing the essay, for that will show commitment. you should contact Dean Hill (he is super cool) as soon as you have an idea about the classes your college offers, so that he can say more or less which ones would be similar for transfer credit.

since you want to go to SFS, i assume you must like international relations. does your school has a Model UN club? it would be a good idea if you could get involved in that and in some other activities.

i really think that much of the transfer application goes down to the essays and to the kind of classes you choose at your current college. oh! and good letters of recommendation too.

so three things, essay, classes (grades count too), and letters.

all that assuming you apply to SFS. therefore you have to decide between the college and SFS before next fall, so that you can plan your entire year in order to create a solid application. the school you choose (sfs or college) will affect the classes you take, the letters of recommendation you get, and the essays you write. so think about that first.

but of course i am not a professional with regards to this matter, so these are just ideas...

peace,

julia

Nenita,

I was considering applying to Georgetown for transfer admission in Fall 2005. That would make me a sophomore transfer. Out of curiosity what were your stats like in applying as a sophomore?

Nenita 1985,
I was accepted to GU about 3 months ago and I'll be starting classes over there in about 2 weeks.
Regarding my stats,
Did poorly in high school a graduated with a 2.0 gpa. I did so poorly that I decided to go straight to work from high school for 2 and 1/2 years. Then, I decided to give it another shot and moved from Argentina to the U.S and began studying in a community college in California. I did very well and completed my two years with a 4.0gpa. I still did not do too well in the SAT's: 590 math, 630 english.

I am far from being a great student but I tried my best and GT saw that.
Buena suerte y espero verte cuando te acepten el año proximo.
Trevor

By the way, I transfered to SFS (International Economics) as a junior.

Wow "Gtown2006" your high school GPA is the same as mine. I am also going to a community college, and I have a 4.0! Hey, you are giving me hope for this year since I am a prospective transfer student. I hope to be a part of McDonough '07.

Lets all start the rallying cries.
