Has anyone heard anything about Freshman Seminar: Seeking Freedom in Antebellum St. Louis (Konig), Freshman Seminar: Gender and Citizenship (Friedman, A), Present Moral Problems (Friedman), Intro to Women's Studies, or Intro to Environmental Science: Biology (Parks)???
Any help on professors and classes would be really helpful. I'm planning to be pre-law majoring in History, Political Science, or STA.

I'm taking present moral problems with friedman next year, and I've heard that it's can be your favorite class or the class from hell depending on what kind of person you are. Apparently, all you have to do to succeed in the class is to be very vocal in expressing your opinions.

I got a 3 on AP Spanish...do I have to place out of I, II, and III. I had awful prep, and I'm not a native speaker or anything. Do they let you have say in where you place. I'm not majoring in it, I just want to be fluent. Will they let me place down?

There's an online placement test that you have to take anyways, and I know a few people who intentionally did badly on it so they could be in a lower level. If you don't think you want to start so high, I'd just do that. It's rediculously easy though, so you have to actually try to do poorly...I personally did well on it, and placed into a really high level and I wish I hadn't, but I loathe the spanish language, so I'm just not taking it at all.

Yeah...I placed into Spanish 307D. The problem is that I didn't take Spanish senior year of high school and when I did junior year, I was in a "remedial" spanish course.

I think Spanish 307D is a junior class? So that does scare me. But I was thinking, maybe their placement tests are actually efficient. And if you try to do badly (because it was ridiculously easy) they'll put you in a Spanish class that's a total waste of time.

Just my 2 cents...

The thing that scares me is that the other students who will be in one of those upper level classes took Spanish I, II, III at Wash U with quality instruction. I've never even written a full length essay in Spanish or used a language lab. I really don't want to start out my freshman year in a 300 level course that I'm swamped in. Did they give you any choice otherwise?

Nope. They just recommended me for that class...so I'm assuming they know if I'm capable of something like that. The problem was the online placement exam was a HUGE joke.
