any other rubelmann's out there?
By Brownsugar (Brownsugar) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 04:12 am: Edit
I visited Wash U earlier this fall.
Koenig is an older dorm. Kinda dirty and not well lit but very social. All the kids knew each other and were very friendly. Not too bad. Tile floors, two closets of moderate size, two light fixtures. Decent, normal dorm.
Lein. You lucky lucky girl. Because it's one of the new dorms, you'll get all the amentities. You walk in to a HUGE HUGE common area furnished with a fire place and leather furniture. Go up the elevator to the floors. There's a hallway (or two, I can't remember) with a bunch of rooms. All the rooms are suites. As soon as you walk in there's a shelf to your left and a door to the bathroom. The room iteself comes with a desk, chair, bed, and drawers. Carpeted. Large window and two closets. Bathrooms are really clean, and connect to another room. Big shower, two sinks, toilet. Can definitely dress up all you'd like.
I dream that my dorm will be Lein.

Brownsugar,
Are you going to Wash U?
If so, what dorm did you get???

Lee Hall anyone? I'm on the ground floor... sadly, it's an all-female floor with 24 hour consideration hours... I'm not sure how I got such a quiet floor when it's definitely the opposite of my personality *shrugs*, they'll just have to deal with me i guess...

I just got my info. I'm in Thomas Eliot House (formerly University House). Anyone else there with me or know anything about it?
By Tosg (Tosg) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 03:34 pm: Edit
I got Rubelmann, in a Healthy Living Community (I didn't ask for one...)
Oh well.
(Lu: What floor in Rubelmann are you on? I'm on three.)
By Sareen_Eng (Sareen_Eng) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 05:50 pm: Edit
I'm in Thomas Eliot House too (room 3121), info on it is at http://uhouse.wustl.edu/ . I think the room dimensions are pretty big (10' x 21'), and it's a new dorm.
What room are you in?
By Melissa27 (Melissa27) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 05:53 pm: Edit
wait one second...rubelmann is a healthy living community?
By Milemarker7 (Milemarker7) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 06:54 pm: Edit
Hey, I'm in Thomas Eliot House as well...formerly known as University House. I have no idea how it looks, but I do know I'm in a 5 person suite.
By Tobes (Tobes) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 11:35 pm: Edit
OMG i'm so jealous of you Thomas Eliot House people! i asked for that and they gave me Umrath instead. I'm totally freaking out---I really really really didnt want a traditional building. They felt like NYC tenements to me. I felt so claustrophobic in there. I practically cried when I saw that I was in Umrath. Of all the dorms, I think Umrath/Rubelman would be my absolute last choice. Does anybody know if it's possible to get switched? I'd even take a triple if it was in a modern building. Anything but this.
By Alphakitten (Alphakitten) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 11:57 pm: Edit
Hey Tosq! I also got put in a healthy living community (I didn't request it either). I'm on floor 3 in Rubelman too so I guess I'll be seeing you!
I wonder how they can say that healthy living communities are floors where students AGREE to be sub free and quiet when they just randomly stick us in without our request. lol - OH WELL. maybe it'll all work out for the best. I'm definately making some friends in the new dorms though.

Those who object to the healthy living floors:
Why not seek out the social floors in your residential house or other dorms, and when it is time to study or be quiet go home to your substance free floor!!! I bet the substance free floors offer some benefits...What do you think???
By Trebleclef829 (Trebleclef829) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 11:27 am: Edit
hey Sareen and Milemarker! Our new "home" looks beautiful. I'm actually in a triple with roomates from Texas and Puerto Rico. They seem really great. I'll send you two e-mail sometime. I think Thomas Eliot House is going to be great! Yeah! I'm in a Room 2140. Milemarker: You can see it on the site that Sareen posted. What room are you in?
By Tosg (Tosg) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 01:04 pm: Edit
Missmolly: That sounds reasonable. It's not that I have a strong objection to substance-free floors, I just think it's a bad idea to try to strongarm students who didn't choose healthy living housing into a substance-free lifestyle. For me, it's not a huge deal, but for others, it's probably more of a problem. And, besides, it's bad for the people who truly want a quiet and substance-free environment to be placed with others who don't have a similar committment.
Just my two cents.
Any other third floor Rubelmanns in here?
By Uknowwho42 (Uknowwho42) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 01:35 pm: Edit
Thomas Eliot is really nice, I stayed there when I visited. You guys will definitely like it. Anyone doing freshman press pre-o?
By Missmolly (Missmolly) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 01:40 pm: Edit
Tosq,
Yes, I totally agree with your view. Maybe the residential living staff at Wash U should read the aformentioned comments. It is strange, and unfair placing people who request regular living floors on healthy living floors....Tosq, good luck at Rublemann, I hope the healthy floor turns out to be okay for you...
By Tobes (Tobes) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 04:26 pm: Edit
Any girl out there who wanted a traditional but got a modern? i think trading with someone is the only way i can get out of this.
By Milemarker7 (Milemarker7) on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 06:21 pm: Edit
Hey Treble I'm in 3131...I think. I'm at work right now so I don't have the paper handy. My suite is 5 people but I'm in a double...so I guess my sweet has a double and a triple? Or maybe a double, double, and single.
I took the online tour and it looked like a lot of fun. The only part I'm worried about is living with 4 other people. But I'm sure I'll have an awesome time.
Last night I went on thefacebook.com and basically just invited everyone who was living in University House (they haven't updated the name yet). Goodtimes. If you're signed up with facebook.com, just do the same thing. There are about four or five people in the class of 2008 who already updated their facebook accounts to show they'll be living in University House. Pretty good considering housing info JUST came out.
Feel free to shoot out an e-mail to me at anytime. That goes for all of you University House people.

Fourth, it's gonna kick ass. Shoot me an IM sometime: toolevit2quit
By Tosg (Tosg) on Saturday, July 10, 2004 - 04:31 pm: Edit
So, it turns out that floor three of Rubelmann isn't substance-free after all (I got a postcard from Wash U today, saying that its designation as substance-free was an editing mistake).
Fair enough...that's probably good.

2000th POST! BAM!
By Washu07 (Washu07) on Thursday, July 22, 2004 - 01:24 pm: Edit
to the person who was freaking out about umrath/ruby - seriously, calm down and don't worry. the same thing actually happened to me last year, i was supposed to get in ruby but somehow pursuaded reslife to put me in uhouse (is it eliot now?) bc i had a "migraine problem and needed a single." i got in there no problem, BUT..
i really, really, really feel strongly that if you are even remotely social you would like the old dorms better. ALL my friends lived in old dorms and we hung out with their friends all the time. i felt the whole year like i really got jacked when it came down to my freshman floor.. it sucked. danforth and lien aren't as bad because you can prop the doors open and see into peoples rooms from the hallway, but uhouse is the most antisocial place in the entire world.
it IS possible to make the old dorms look cute.. i promise, i've seen it! just get a carpet that covers the whole room, that will do wonders, and decorate nicely. you'll hardly even notice that it's an old dorm except that you'll be having TONS more fun than your friends in the new dorms.
and if i haven't convinced you on this issue and you still want to switch, WHATEVER YOU DO, do NOT go for a triple in ANY dorm over a double. that is probably the dumbest decision you could ever make. triples SUCK. i had two friends who had to switch out of them because of all the issues... imagine being sexiled all the time and dealing with TWO roommates and being cramped in the space, blah blah... trust me, not worth it.
good luck though!
