You're allowed to get someone on admissions to write you a rec? hmmm....I didn't know that
I think that you actually have a decent shot. If Vassar is you're number 1, go ED2. They have a mid-high 50% rate for ED, and it should be a little higher since you're a male. You're class rank (not even 2nd decile) and SAT will severely hurt you. They say those are the two most important factors, so...?
Get 750+ on your SAT II's (try US and world History, and maybe writing) and try to raise that GPA and SAT I score. You're SAT isn't so bad. They will notice the math may not be your thing. It definatly seems like you won't be a math/science major.
What's your prospective major and what's your unweighted GPA?

I can improve my GPA, and i'm going to hopefully do well on the ACT to counter my bad SAT score.
I'm almost positive i can get 750+ on SAT II history and writing though.
My GPA will also be a bit higher (top 15% or so) by the time i apply hopefully.
My prospective major: Medieval and renaissance studies.
Music/Writing/History= my thing
Math/science=definitely not

You SAT is fine...that's what I got and I got in. Just maintain your ECs. Show that u are dedicated and be very creative in your essay and "my space" area. GOOD LUCK!
