Hey everyone,
School is FINALLY out, so I've got my stats and everything, and I'm curious to know what you guys think.
I love New York City. I'm not going to lie - my first choice is Columbia, but I visited NYU and I thought it would serve me better for a "real world" experience. So I plan on applying Regular Decision, and I think I have better chance of getting in at NYU. It seems like a chill place, so I don't think I'd be too depressed if I went there
I'm Pakistani, and I'm from Northern Virginia. My stats seem pretty borderline, but I hope I can get in...
My school is a part of Fairfax County, one of the richest counties in the country. (I can barely afford to live here, but the education is high-quality regardless...)
(Ahem) With that said...I'm ready to be torn apart.
GPA: 3.9 UW/4.0 W
(You get a .5 added on for every AP course you take)
Our school does not rank, but my grade has approximately 600+ students, and I'm in the top 5%
SAT 1: 1350 (740 Verbal, 610 Math) - I am retaking these in October, and I hope to get over 1400. I know I need to raise my math score.
SAT IIs:

Summer Stuff:
This past summer I attended the Governor's School for Visual/Performing Arts and Humanities in...Humanities. This was a pretty competitive program with only 200 students being selected from 1000-1500 applicants.
This upcoming summer, I will be attending:
*University of Missouri-Columbia AHANA Workshop-
-The best undergrad journalism school in the country hosts a one week workshop/camp for minority journalists.
*Virginia Commonwealth University's High School Editors' Workshop
-Top editors in the state come together for a week to work on improving their publications
*J Camp at George Washington University
-Sponsored by the Asian American Journalists Association, this program selected 30 out of 500 applicants from the country to attend this allegedly AWESOME camp with speakers like Carl Bernstein, Tim Russert, and Bob Woodward. I'm so excited for this one.
Random Award:
-English Department Award for the school (11th)
I'll be the first one from my family to NOT go to a community college.
I want to double major if I go here. I want a strong liberal arts degree. My ideal job would be to write for the Rolling Stone because I love writing and music. Interning is something I'm definitely going to want to do because the resources in NYC are so fantastic.
I would probably want to write for Washington Square News, though I wasn't completely impressed when I saw it. I still need to research the NYU media outlets.
My recs and essay should be pretty good, too.
Sorry for this being so long. If anyone has any advice, let me know. I know my SAT 1's need to be seriously raised...
Thanks for reading this. Please let me know what you think.
