anyone find out their admissions decision yet? i sent my stuff in like 2 months early, and they said they start sending out letters june 1st... almost 3 weeks later, im still wondering where mine is.

By Aarhat (Aarhat) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 04:18 pm: Edit

I haven't heard yet, either (though I am in Northern CA and mail often takes awhile from there). According to the application status site, my app was completed on June 10th, so I really hope word comes soon. I submitted the app about 2 weeks before the deadline. Good luck.

By Miluo (Miluo) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 02:35 pm: Edit

Still waiting, my app was completed on the June 1st deadline. I'm guessing it probably takes 4-6 weeks for the decision making process to be made.

I don't think they start sending out letters June 1st, that's when they actually start reading the apps based on how early you completed it. So, hopefully you'll be hearing soon.

They say that they begin mailing decisions in mid-June, so I'd say that when you check online, your decision should be posted with 2-4 weeks.

I'm sure you'll hear before 4 July.

By Miluo (Miluo) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 10:36 pm: Edit

BUMP

Post here if you hear anything.

My friend received his rejection today.

We live in Chicago, though, so he was probably one of the first.

I believe the letter said they took 100 out of 600 applicants, and they included a letter to rejectees about possible reasons for the rejection.

By Up40love (Up40love) on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 02:13 am: Edit

oh yes, and his app was completed 9 June.

By Aarhat (Aarhat) on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 11:45 am: Edit

Up40-
Sorry about your friend. Which school was he trying to transfer from? Do you think he should've gotten in, based on his stats/experience/situation, etc.?

By Miluo (Miluo) on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 09:03 pm: Edit

I wish they would update the online status page with our decisions, I'm leaving the country soon and probably won't get my letter in the mail before then.

By Up40love (Up40love) on Sunday, June 27, 2004 - 12:56 am: Edit

Aarhat

I don't think he was a particularly strong applicant. He writes well -- we're both dabbling as potential writers though he's yet to have some of his work published -- but the rest of his application was relatively mediocre.

His stats:
3.329 College GPA
1260 SAT I
2.9 HS GPA

I don't know about his recs or anything, but I really liked his essays, and NU requires so many of them!

Update:
I received a call from Northwestern today, telling me that they wanted me to give them my street address. The address listed on my application was a PO Box, and the office says they are looking to FedEx me something and FedEx does not deliver to PO Boxes. I should get the package in the mail tomorrow or the day after. Hopefully, it'll be something good! It would be real dick to FedEx a rejection letter.

By Aarhat (Aarhat) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 06:22 pm: Edit

Good luck!

By Wmswms (Wmswms) on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 06:25 pm: Edit

So does anyone know if they actually update the online status when they arrive at a descision? Should I even bother checking it periodically?

By Malicemizer9 (Malicemizer9) on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 11:03 pm: Edit

I got the acceptance today. FedEx package, mailed June 28. My app was officially completed on June 15. They don't have on-campus housing. I love Northwestern, but that just kills the whole deal.

I'll let them know ASAP so they can hopefully accept another kid.

-transfer to Cornell '07

By Aarhat (Aarhat) on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 12:12 am: Edit

Malice-Congrats!! (and on Cornell, too)...just curious...is it cost or is it convenience for the housing thing? You could live in Rogers Park in Chicago, and take the El to school fairly cheaply. I understand your choosing Cornell over NU, but Ithaca over Chicago?

Miluo--you hear yet?

By Shahab (Shahab) on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 06:44 am: Edit

IN!!

this is great, this is one of the schools I really wanted to go to... lets just hope NW is generous with transfer finaid

BTW, anyone know how the work with your gpa? does it transfer over, or do you start again? i had a pretty high gpa and worked really hard for it at monmouth, and would hate seeing it disappear just like that.... im in summa cum laude range and due to the hard courses im taking over the next two years, i would probably have no shot of summa without my previous two.

anyway, congrats to everyone who got in, doesn't it suck that on campus is filled? we all gotta live off campus.... gdamit

By Malicemizer9 (Malicemizer9) on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 10:17 am: Edit

Thanks Aarhat, I agree with you wholeheartedly -

Ithaca sucks.

Chicago >>>>>>>>>>>> Ithaca.

But the Cornell cmpus makes up for it, so all is cool.

(Personally, I like NU a little bit more because of it's laidback atmosphere, awesome big ten athletics, and general coolness; however, I live in NJ so the parents want me to go to Cornell which is some eight hours closer. I know I am being irrational, and a bit of the prestige wh*re, but the "Ivy League" brand also does a lot for me. However, I think NU is "better" (well, you can't say a school is just "better," that's absurd, but it is most likely a better experience) than a few ivies.

Goodluck with your decision!

Shahab: GPA does not transfer over. HOWEVER, when you apply to grad school, you will need to mail in all of your transcripts and the school will average your GPAs.

By Miluo (Miluo) on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 05:49 pm: Edit

After numerous complications, my admissions packet finally arrived today. I'm so excited! See you in the fall!
