I just received a printing from Kenyon that I think is the most extensive thing they've ever sent me. I believe the attached letter called it a "stylus," but the only official title I found in the book was Quintessential Kenyon.
Identification aside, it has exponentially increased my excitement for Kenyon. Don't get me wrong, I've always recognized that it was the most underrated college in the country and that it seemed almost perfect for me- in fact, it was the first college that made me consider anything other than the University of Maryland, and the college that made me realize my heart belongs to LACs.
Quintessential Kenyon, mainly the miniature insert inside giving accounts of fantastic anecdotes from around the campus, kindly reminded me of the thing that excited me for Kenyon- the sense of community without the sense of competition.
It was a little intimidating, though, because it made me feel intellectually out of my league to read about people discussing things I've never even considered so frequently on campus. ("The noise, he found, was two students arguing over who the best postmodern poet is") If I'm out of my league intellectually at Kenyon, I would prefer that inadequacy to my inadequacies at my other two favorite colleges- academically at Swarthmore and financially at Washington and Lee.
Er, sorry, there's no real point to this post, I'm just venting my excitement.
